LAW BRIMMING WITH CONFIDENCE HEADING INTO CAPE TOWN CLASH

Order of Merit number one Bronte Law is in a confident mood heading into this week’s Investec South African Women’s Open as she looks to continue her fine form in 2024.

The Englishwoman has made a hot start this season winning the Lalla Meryem Cup thanks a fantastic final round 64 (-9) before finishing runner-up in her last official event, the Women’s NSW Open.

Now feeling fresh after a three week break back home, Law has every right to feel confident as she tees up in South Africa for the very first time.

“I’m feeling good,” Law said. “It’s my first time in South Africa. I felt a couple of weeks off would do me good ahead of a really busy stretch that we have got going on. There’s a lot of international travel and with the U.S. Women’s Open Qualifier coming up, it’s definitely a time to be going into it fresh.

“I’m really happy to be here, the sun has come out for us now. It’s a fantastic golf course, I really enjoyed playing it yesterday so I’m definitely looking forward to the week ahead.”

It was another phenomenal finish from the three-time Ladies European Tour (LET) winner last time out as Law fires a 67 (-5) on Sunday to fall just short of win number two this season.

On the performance, Law said: “I played really well. Golf is that kind of game where sometimes it just doesn’t end up being your day. I played really solid golf on that last day and just got pipped by one in the end. I was really happy with how I played. I have been continuing to work on things I have been working on since the start of the year and will continue to do so and hopefully, I can do one better.”

As for the Order of Merit, the 2019 Solheim Cup player is refusing to look too far ahead at this early stage of the season, continuing to adopt a one tournament-at-a-time mindset despite leading second place, Switzerland’s Chiara Tamburlini, by 297.75 points.

“It’s so early on in the season right now,” Law continued. “I have the same mindset I had at the start of the season. Each tournament is fresh and I have to prepare as if I am in the same position as everyone else and make sure I do all my homework and I am as well prepared as I can be going out there. I don’t feel that being in the position that I am makes it any easier each week we go to, so for me I will just be treating as if I do for every tournament I go to.

“I’m always confident in my ability going into the events each week. It’s just a matter of going out there and hitting good shots and seeing what numbers I can post. I’m always feeling confident in my ability to go out there and play some good golf.”

While Law is also helped by having some local knowledge on the bag this week, with her caddie, former Zimbabwean rugby player Gary Du Ploy, having caddied for Trevor Immelman at Erinvale Golf & Country Estate back in the early 2000s.

“He [my caddie] always does his homework at each event,” she said. “I don’t think he will be relying too much on thinking back 15 years ago! Definitely having that extra bit of knowledge here and there, coming up with a few ideas is helpful. We play a lot of golf courses throughout the year that we’ve never seen before, so any time we have seen it – even if it is 20 years ago – I’m certain it will help.

“I think it’s a really good course. It’s in really good condition. You have got some incredible views out there on the back nine. I think it will be a really good test this week and looking forward to playing here. I definitely like the style of the golf course.”

Order of Merit leader Law gets underway at the 2024 Investec South African Women’s Open on Thursday at 12:00pm local time playing alongside South Africa’s Casandra Alexander and Italy’s Alessandra Fanali.
