LPGA rookie Helen Briem returns to the LET this week to tee up in the La Sella Open, where she secured her maiden Ladies European Tour (LET) victory in 2024.
Briem has already won her second LET title at the Jabra Ladies Open de France in May.
Leading into the week, she has made seven starts on the LET and 13 starts on the LPGA this year, where she has made five cuts including a top 25 in the Mizuho Americas Open.
The 21-year-old from Germany said: “I enjoy coming back here. It’s a great area, a great golf course, a great property, great food and just a great week in general. It was a no-brainer to come here.
“It’s been voted as the tournament with the best player services for a reason. Everything is great. The organisers make this tournament for the players and as a player you feel that. That’s why this is such a great tournament.”
Following her victory in 2024, the organisers planted a German field maple in the “Forest of Champions” between the course’s 10th green and the 11th tee in Briem’s honour. The club plants a tree native to the champion’s home country after every edition and she added: “The project is designed with sustainability in mind and the organisers have started a great tradition.”
Like most golf fans, Briem was inspired by Europe’s victory in the Solheim Cup on Sunday. She played in the 2021 and 2023 Junior Solheim Cups as well as in 2023 Junior Ryder Cup, so will forever be a fan of Team Europe and hopes to qualify for the next Solheim Cup at Valhalla in Kentucky.
As a young global golfer, she is still loving every second: “I’m learning a lot and getting great experiences. I’m trying to improve every day,” she says.
When it comes to a potential second victory at La Sella, she added: “There are some shots that I remember, especially from the final round in ’24. I’ll try to hit as many good shots as I did then, and then we’ll see what happens at the end of the week.”
