Anna Huang is beaming with excitement ahead of the 2026 U.S. Women’s Open as the 17-year-old competes at Riviera a fortnight on from making history on the Ladies European Tour (LET).
The Canadian won the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco last month to become the youngest player in history to reach three wins on the LET. The victory came thanks to a final round 66 (-7) in Rabat as Huang came from six shots back to beat Kelsey Bennett to the title.
“It was a really great win for me,” Huang said. “It gave me a lot of confidence heading into my first Major of the year. Morocco has been really special for me. I’ve played there three times now and I’ve enjoyed it every single time I’ve been there.
“It’s honestly so special [to make history]. I didn’t know what the stats were but I knew I would be pretty high up there with my third win. Being able to be alongside big names like Jeeno [Thitikul] and Lydia [Ko] is super special. I’m really grateful to be a part of history.”
Two weeks later Huang is in action again teeing up on the LPGA within a stacked 156 player field. The Riviera Country Club is on hosting duties for the first time in U.S Women’s Open history. The LA track is an iconic venue which boasts historic pedigree.
“It’s been really fun so far,” Huang said. “I love LA and the weather has been super nice this week. Super sunny and blue skies all week so I’m really happy about that. I actually used to live in Southern California for a couple of years, so it’s nice to be somewhere that I’m familiar with.“
“It’s such an iconic course. I watched the Genesis Invitational here [on the PGA Tour] and sat by 18. I don’t remember too much about the course but do remember the 18th green and how special it looked. Be able to play here is a really cool experience. The course is amazing. It’s really pure and the conditions are special. I’m really excited for this week.”
Huang topped the qualifier at Somerset Country Club to earn her spot in the field for the second consecutive year. The young Canadian missed the cut last time out but arrives at Riviera as World No 53 thanks to her tremendous form.
“I want to keep things simple,” the 17-year-old said on the task at hand. “Making the cut is the goal. I haven’t made a cut at a Major yet so that’s my first goal. Being able to play weekend golf here would be really special for me – especially here in LA. I have a lot of friends and family coming out to watch so it would be nice to give them something to cheer.”
The week has already been a special one for Huang as she tee’d up alongside her idol and compatriot, Major winner Brooke Henderson, on Tuesday afternoon.
“It was super cool,” Huang said. “Ever since I started playing golf, Brooke was the person I looked up to the most. I always wanted to be just like her. Being about to play alongside her at the U.S. Women’s Open is a memorable experience and something I will remember forever.”
Huang gets underway at the 2026 U.S. Women’s Open presented by Ally at 1:47pm local time playing alongside Japan’s Minami Katsu and Chinese Taipei’s Peiyun Chien.
