HENSELEIT HAPPY TO BE TEEING IT UP AT HOME OPEN

Esther Henseleit

Germany’s Esther Henseleit is back on the Ladies European Tour (LET) this week and competing on home soil at the 2026 Amundi German Masters.

The two-time LET winner hails from just outside of Hamburg and is looking forward to the test the North Course at Green Eagle Golf Courses will provide.

With the event being so close to home, Henseleit will have plenty of family and friends supporting from the sidelines from May 14-17.

“It’s great,” she said. “It’s very close to home for me. My family doesn’t get to see me play much, so they are going to be here this week, which is going to be fun. There will just be a lot of familiar faces in your crowd and enjoying my time here.”

The Amundi German Masters Junior Qualifier by Esther Henseleit took place last month which saw junior golfers vie for a place in the 2026 Amundi German Masters.

15-year-old Lucia Fohrmann from GC Starnberg took top spot to claim her invite into the 10th LET event of the season.

“The junior qualifier is something I really wanted to do,” explained Henseleit. “It’s great to see someone so young teeing up this year, only 15 years old, and I spoke to her earlier this week and she’s super excited to be here and just learn a lot of things from us. It’s really cool to see.”

The German star is hoping to play well in her home tournament having finished in a share of 10th place in 2025.

However, the weather is a little colder than last year meaning the par-73 course is playing longer than normal.

“It’s freezing! I didn’t really expect this to be honest,” she continued. “I don’t think anyone did! But the course is actually looking pretty good considering they had snow like two months ago.

“It’s known to be a really long course, and the weather is definitely helping that out as well, but it’s a good golf course. It’s in pretty good condition coming into this week. I’m here to win. Everyone wants to win their home open and just excited to be teeing it up here.

“I’ve definitely already played a lot, so it feels like we’re in the middle of this season already. I had a really good start to the year with a couple top 10s on the LPGA. I’ve definitely seen a lot of improvements, but golf is going up and down a little bit. Everyone knows that. My game does feel good. I just need to kind of put my scores together.”

Henseleit played in her first Solheim Cup back in 2024 just a few weeks after winning the silver medal at the Paris Olympic Games.

The 20th edition of the Solheim Cup will take place at Bernardus Golf from 11-13 September with Europe hoping to win back the prestigious trophy.

Henseleit, who is currently ranked 45th in the Rolex Rankings, occupies an automatic qualifying spot and wants to be back in European colours in September.

“I’m definitely thinking about the Solheim Cup,” she added. “I was part of that team of the last Solheim, and it was so much fun. I definitely want to experience it again, especially in a home cup, and with it being so close to home.

“I definitely do want to qualify for it, so I don’t want to hope for a pick. It’s definitely on my on my list for this year. I just need to play some solid golf and hopefully I’ll be part of that team.”

Henseleit will tee it up in the first round of the Amundi German Masters from 10th tee at 8.04 am (local time) alongside Austria’s Emma Spitz and defending champion Shannon Tan.
