HOMECOMING FOR HUANG AS TEENAGE SENSATION TEES UP AT CANADIAN OPEN

Fresh off making more history on the Ladies European Tour (LET), Anna Huang is back home this week as the teenage superstar tees up at her native CPKC Women’s Canadian Open on the LPGA Tour.

The 17-year-old secured a second victory of the season two weeks ago seeing off a Sunday charge from World No 6 Charley Hull to win the 2026 PIF London Championship and move to second on the LET Order of Merit.

With the win, Huang became the youngest player in history to reach four wins on the circuit having also claimed the La Sella Open, Lacoste Ladies Open de France and Lalla Meryem Cup over the past 11 months. At 17 years, 9 months and 10 days, Huang moved into the history books ahead of Thailand’s Jeeno Thitikul and New Zealand’s Lydia Ko. Elite company.

“It was a really cool moment to play with Charley [Hull] in the final two days, and also to beat her was really nice,” Huang said, who eagled the 18th hole at Centurion Club every day en route to victory. “Yeah, there was a lot of British crowds out there cheering for Charley; not as many for me. I had really great time and tried to stay in my zone.

“I think [my form] is [down to] a mix of everything: Lots of hard work, determination, self-belief, and also having enough rest in. And also support from my family and my team.”

It was a prolific performance which now affords the young Canadian the home favourite tag alongside Major winner Brooke Henderson at this week’s CPKC Women’s Canadian Open.

“I’ve gotten recognised a lot more than I thought I would,” Huang said, now World No 54. “It’s been really cool to see a lot of fans cheering for me this week. I’m just really excited. I love being home. And just the Canadian spirit has been really great the past few years.

“I watched Brooke [Henderson] play the Canadian Open back I think in 2016. I really look up to her. She’s definitely been my idol growing up.”

An invite this week, Huang will tee up at Royal Mayfair Golf Club in Edmonton alongside 14 other Canadian players. Her home open marks the Canadian’s seventh start on the LPGA this season having finished T13 at the Aramco Championship, T42 at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and T22 at The Amundi Evian Championship.

“I’m just really excited to play amongst the best in the world,” Huang said, who is sharing the fairways alongside the likes of Ko, Henderson, Minjee Lee and Nelly Korda this week. “I think my game is in a pretty good spot right now. I’ve worked really hard this year to get where I am.

“Every LPGA member has earned their spot onto the LPGA. Everyone has worked really hard to get where they are. If I keep doing the same, I think then this year, at the end of the year I’m going to play Q-School, and if things work out then I will get my card [too].”

Huang gets underway at the CPKC Women’s Canadian Open on Thursday at 7:33am local time playing alongside fellow LET winner Mimi Rhodes from England and Amanda Doherty of the USA. She will be hoping to put on a show for her home fans as tees up alongside the world’s best.

“I think just making Canada proud and also my family,” the 17-year-old said when asked what would make her happiest this week. “I think I worked really hard this year to get where I am, and maybe another good week here would help just with my ranking and with my confidence.”
