Anna Zanusso of Italy completed a six-under-par 66 early on Friday morning to take a two-stroke lead after the first round of the La Sella Open in Denia, Spain.
Zanusso had a stop-start round with two lengthy delays but was delighted after making two birdies in four holes this morning.
After play resumed at 8.30am, she birdied the 15th and then had an eagle putt on the par-5 18th at La Sella Golf.
“We started yesterday afternoon, played two holes and then there was a rain delay for over two hours. We went out and played 12 more holes and then came back this morning, so a lot happened in between, but I’m really happy I was able to stay very focused despite the suspensions,” said Zanusso, 26, from Castelfranco, an hour from Venice, who loves to go hiking and walk her dog.
The second year LET player, who has twice finished fourth on Tour this season, in Mauritius and Czechia, continued: “I had a very solid start today and hit my approach shot to a foot on my first hole and then had an eagle chance. I didn’t hit my best putt but I’m happy with a birdie.”
Six further players ended round one two strokes back. Maddison Hinson-Tolchard from Australia joined overnight leaders Ariane Klotz, Caitlyn Macnab, Gemma Clews, Helen Briem and Hannah Screen. A group of six further players finished their rounds a stroke back on three-under-par heading into round two today.
After the second round there will be a cut to the leading 60 players and ties.
