PHATLUM EXCITED TO JOIN LET AND TEE IT UP AT WISTRON LADIES OPEN

Pornanong Phatlum

Pornanong Phatlum is back on the Ladies European Tour (LET) again this week following her victory in India.

The Thai star created history last week by winning the Hero Women’s Indian Open for the fourth time at DLF Golf and Country Club.

Phatlum has received a lot of support since her victory on Sunday and enjoyed celebrating with her fellow Thai players.

“I had a lot of messages and a lot of support from my friends and family and fans. I’m also thankful to the sponsors of last week for giving me the invite,” said Phatlum.  “It had been 14 years since I was last in India.

“I am so happy that I was able to play and get the win because it had also been longer, I am older now. I can’t believe I won at DLF for the fourth time, I’m very happy. The win means a lot to me. It shows me I can still do it and play well.

“Trichat [Cheenglab] and April [Angurasaranee] and Jan [Aunchisa Utama] were all cheering me on the night before the last round and they were on the green to celebrate with me. I have known them for a long time.

“I was the first Thai player on Tour, so I know a lot of them have looked up to me and I was an inspiration for them. I hope to keep inspiring them even now, I’ve been on Tour for 20 years. I’m the auntie of the group now and I like to talk to them and support them.”

After securing her third LET title, Phatlum clinched her spot at this week’s Wistron Ladies Open which is co-sanctioned by the LET and TLPGA.

The $1.2 million event is being staged at Sunrise Golf and Country with 108 players teeing it up in a 72-hole stroke play competition.

The 36-year-old also took up LET membership with her win and is now 46th in the Order of Merit standings.

“I am taking up LET membership. I’m looking forward to exploring beautiful European countries. I’m excited for next year,” she continued. “I wanted to play this week because it’s been a while since I played at this golf course, seven years, I think.

“I wanted to see some of my friends and eat the local food. It was long with the travel, but I enjoy being here. This golf course is tough and different to last week. The wind today was so strong, I could hardly stand in it! Hopefully, tournament days it won’t be as strong and will be perfect weather.

“The greens are quite small and if you do good shots into the green, then I think you will have good chances to make birdie putt. I just want to enjoy my week here, have fun, and enjoy being with my friends at this golf course. I have no expectations. It’s a bonus.”

Phatlum will tee it up in the first round of the Wistron Ladies Open at 7 am (local time) alongside American Anna Morgan and home star Vivian Hou.
