Emma Spitz is back at a golf course where she played well in 2025 finishing in a share of fourth place at the Aramco Korea Championship.
New Korea Country Club is the host venue for the tournament for the third year in a row, but this year it’s being played in October rather than May.
Spitz played solidly in 2025 to secure a top-10 finish behind winner Hyo Joo Kim and believes the course is playing slightly differently this year.
“I remember it was very wet and cold, but I just played very solidly, I didn’t make too many mistakes,” said Spitz. “The course is one of the more difficult ones that we played, it played quite long. Yesterday I played it, and it did play a bit shorter at this time of the year. Just putting it in the right spot and hitting a lot of greens helps out here. I will try to do that again.
“With that grass, it doesn’t make as much of a difference as other places where it gets really firm. It doesn’t get as firm, but it is a little firmer, and the weather is very consistent with 23 degrees, so the ball is going to travel nicely. That’s probably the main difference that we’ll see this year, so a few shorter clubs and maybe some lower scores.
“It’s nice. Obviously, the travel, I’m not used to the long travels anymore, but it’s a nice country. I really enjoy it here. The food is really good. We went into town yesterday and did some sightseeing, so that was fun. It’s always nice to be here.”
Last week was an off-week for the LET before the Asian swing begun and Spitz took the opportunity to go to Oktoberfest for the first time alongside friend and fellow LET player Alexandra Försterling.
She added: “It was my first Oktoberfest. I would do it again. I’m not really a beer drinker, so that doesn’t really help there, but it was fun. It’s fun to dress up in the traditional clothes and be around other friends. It was a lot of ex-golfers or still golfers that were there, it was really fun to get away from golf.”
Spitz has had an up-and-down season and currently sits 31st in the Order of Merit having recorded three top-10 finishes in 2026.
The Olympian is hoping to stay in the moment during the 2026 Aramco Korea Championship, which takes place from October 8-11, and not get ahead of herself.
She continued: “It’s been a weird season this year for me. It’s been up and down. I have stretches where it feels good, but then mentally it’s been difficult sometimes on the course, I get frustrated easier than I want to, but that’s golf.
“I just hope I can really just be in the moment this week and hit every shot at a time and not try to think about the score and the results too much. That’s been in my head a bit more than it should be. We’ll try to do that better this week.
“You can have a good week in a new place, but it helps knowing that I’ve played well here and knowing that even if it maybe doesn’t start the best, I can always come back from it. I think that really helps.”
Spitz will tee it up in the first round at New Korea Country Club at 12.04 pm (local time) alongside Slovenia’s Pia Babnik and England’s Esme Hamilton.
