KOUSKOVA HAPPY WITH SOLID START TO THE SEASON

Sara Kouskova

It’s been a good start to the year for Sara Kouskova who has had one top-15 and one top-10 finish in her first three starts on the Ladies European Tour (LET).

A third round of 66 (-7) saw her move up the leaderboard at the Magical Kenya Ladies Open where she ultimately finished in a share of 16th place.

The Czech star then made the cut at the Aramco Saudi Ladies International Presented by PIF before finishing in outright sixth place at the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco.

“I’ve been enjoying the season so far,” she said. “Coming from Kenya to Riyadh and then back to Morocco was extensive, but I think we managed to keep it altogether.

“It’s been nice, and I was happy that the off-season preparation paid off. We did good work over winter and the results have been faster coming in this year than any season before.”

Kouskova, who was a rookie on the LET in 2023, realised some changes she needed to make to her tournament preparation and has applied them this year.

The 24-year-old spent some time in January in Spain playing lots of different golf courses, in order to hit the ground running in 2024.

She explained: “We worked on playing preparation. We went over to Spain for a few weeks and played 11 or 12 different courses to get as much variability and complexity. Like I said, it’s paid off great so far because Kenya obviously offers a lot of different conditions.

“You have to transfer your skills fast from event to event, so I think the off-season in Spain was very helpful. I’m very happy about it. Sixth place in Morocco was my second highest position ever [on the LET].”

Kouskova has great memories of the Aramco Team Series Presented by PIF events as she was part of the winning team in Riyadh in 2023.

The Czech player also had some success in Florida ending last year’s tournament in a tie for 10th place.

Reflecting on that win in Riyadh on this week’s LET Golf Podcast, Kouskova spoke about her team captain Carlota Ciganda and how she really helped propel the quartet to the win.

She added: “Carlota [Ciganda] was amazing as captain last time out. It was such an incredible two days even though I didn’t feel too great before it because of my back. I was the last player in the field and we were just out there having fun.

“Carlota was an amazing leader and she was definitely a team spirited person. She pushed us through and psychologically helped us make birdies. It was great. She never wanted to stop! It was the best thing.”
