GERMANY’S MAIER-BORST LEADS QUALIFYING FOR 2026 PING JUNIOR SOLHEIM CUP

  • Six qualifying events down, four to go before the European team is confirmed in August
  • Top six in rankings will qualify for event at Bernardus Golf Club in The Netherlands from 7-8 September
  • PING Junior Solheim Cup taking place on the same course as Solheim Cup for the first time

German teenager Sofia Maier-Borst leads the race to qualify for the 2026 PING Junior Solheim Cup, topping the list after six of 10 counting events.

With three qualifying tournaments completed in June, the competition to make Captain Anne van Dam’s team for the biennial event, taking place at Bernardus Golf Club from 7-8 September 2026, is intensifying.

The top six eligible players will automatically qualify for the 12-strong team set to take on the United States, with another six selected by Van Dam and her vice-captain and good friend, Bronte Law.

The current top six in the 2026 PING Junior Solheim Cup points list:

1. Sofia Maier-Borst, Germany

2. Anna Ludvová, Czech Republic

3. Giselle Zhao, France

Van Dam, who is also a vice-captain to Anna Nordqvist for the Solheim Cup, taking place from 11-13 September, said: “The standard of these young players is incredible, and they have great determination to make the team.

“Whoever qualifies, I know we will have a very strong team, and I’m excited to lead these promising girls in my home country. I wish every one of them the best of luck for the last four qualifying events.”

Early in June, Maier-Borst finished runner-up to Czech player Anna Ludvová in the German International Girls Championship, then took second place again at the ANNIKA Invitational Europe the following week.

English teenager Lauren Crump was victorious at the tournament of Solheim Cup legend Annika Sorenstam, winning by a whopping 10 shots to jump into the automatic qualifying spots. Crump and Maier-Borst were the only players in the field to finish under par for three rounds.

Four qualifying events remain before the six qualified players are confirmed on 17 August and the six Captain’s Picks are announced the following day.

The race next visits Ireland for the European Ladies Team Championship and Switzerland for the European Girls Team Championship (both 7-11 July), then heads to Sweden for the European Ladies Amateur Championship (22-25 July) before concluding in Scotland at the R&A Girls Amateur Championship (10-15 August).

The 14th edition of the PING Junior Solheim Cup will be played on the same course as the Solheim Cup for the first time.

The juniors will compete in matchplay over two days (Monday 7 and Tuesday 8 September) before staying on to watch their idols contest the prestigious trophy (Friday 11 to Sunday 13 September).

Many of today’s top professionals started their Solheim Cup careers in the PING Junior Solheim Cup, including Van Dam and Law, Charley Hull, Carlota Ciganda, Nelly Korda and Lexi Thompson.
