FRESH PERSPECTIVE FOR IN-FORM FORSTERLING AFTER DIFFICULT 2025

After a challenging year Alexandra Forsterling is enjoying every moment out on the course again as she continues to rack up top-10 finishes on the Ladies European Tour (LET) this season.

The German endured a difficult 2025 as a lower back injury plagued her season resulting in a 79th placed finish on the LET Order of Merit.

Having won four times on the circuit prior to last year, Forsterling has returned to her best in 2026 securing seven top-10 finishes already this season.

While a fifth win on the LET seems imminent for the talented Olympian, Forsterling is just happy to be swinging relatively pain free again as she tees up at the KPMG Women’s Irish Open this week.

“Definitely [I want to win again], but I came from a really tough year last year so I’m just really happy with where I’m at,” she said at The K Club ahead of round one. “I’m not thinking too much about winning, I just want to try my best and enjoy every week. I feel really fortunate at where I am right now because of how difficult last year was. Hopefully I can continue putting myself in positions where I’m close to winning.

“My body feels a lot better. I’m not fully fit, I’m still working on it. I’m not 100%. I still have a little bit of pain every week but I’m glad we have physios here and I also have a really great physio back home. I try to go as much as I can because it does so much good for me. Some weeks are worst than others but it’s not effecting my swing as much as it did last year.”

In her last outing at the VP Bank Swiss Ladies Open – an event she won in 2023 – Forsterling contended right down to the wire at Golfpark Holzhäusern eventually finishing T2 as Eleanor Givens claimed victory. It was the German’s second runner-up of the season having also finished T2 at the Australian WPGA Championship in March.

“I just love that place,” Forsterling said on the finish in Switzerland. “I think the course really suits me. I think my worst finish there is just outside the top-10. Everything around that place is just so beautiful and I had my mum there too. It feels like home. I really enjoyed the week.

“After Switzerland I was home for a couple of days and then I went to a bachelorette party of a really close friend of mine in Cologne. I took a couple days off but I also did some practice. I would feel better. I played four weeks in a row before the off-week so I was feeling quite drained after Switzerland. A couple of days off was really nice.”

As for this week, Forsterling tees up as one of the headline stars on The K Club’s Palmer South Course as she looks to continue her excellent form. Currently fifth on this year’s Order of Merit, the 26-year-old will play alongside home favourite Anna Foster and England’s Annabell Fuller over the first two days where she is expecting big crowds in Ireland.

“It’s a great course here,” Forsterling said. “Everything looks so nice. I think it suits my game. Some tricky greens. We’ll see how the weather is for us. It’s always great to have so many people coming out to watch here. Especially to watch women’s golf. It always gives us so much confidence and makes us feel good. Hopefully we’ll have a big crowd in our group. Even if you’re not from here, the Irish are always appreciative of good golf.

I’m staying with Emma Spitz this week in the hotel too. It’s always so nice. It makes everything so much easier.”

While on the Order of Merit, the German added: “I do look at the Order of Merit but I try not to put too much pressure on myself. My goal is to finish in the top-seven so I can automatically qualify for the majors next year.”
