BABNIK HAPPY TO BE BACK IN CONTENTION AFTER STRONG SHOWING IN SOUTH AFRICA

Pia Babnik believes she can win again on the Ladies European Tour (LET) after three top-10 finishes so far in 2026.

The two-time LET winner collected both of her titles in 2021 and went through some struggles with her game.

However, over the last two seasons, she has been rebuilding and put in a lot of work to get back towards her best.

The Olympian produced a T6 result at the Australian Women’s Classic in March before finishing in a share of fifth place at the Joburg Ladies Open and a solo third place at last week’s Investec SA Women’s Open.

“It was amazing,” she said. “It’s what I’ve been working towards, so I’m happy that the hard work that I’ve been putting in is showing. I’m really excited.

“I was pleased with just the whole game and how I played. It was amazing, especially the first two days, when the weather was still great. The amount of birdies I made and the shots I was hitting, they were really good and my putting was great as well.

“I was really pleased with my ability to play good shots from unusual places. Obviously, I didn’t want to be in this position off the tee, but being able to hit shots out of there that maybe someone else wouldn’t is pretty great. I was able to take advantage of my speed and distance, which also helped with my shots out of the rough.”

Despite only being 22, this is the Slovenian star’s seventh year on the LET and she believes she has grown a lot as a person during that time.

Babnik is often seen travelling with her family by her side especially her mum on her bag, but she is also joined by her dad and younger brothers too.

She added: “I’ve grown so much. I’m definitely a completely different person. I’m simply just really enjoying it because I thought if I’m not going to enjoy this, there’s no point of doing it.

“I’m just really enjoying all aspects of it. Playing good, trying to sometimes get out of the problems I get in, and just enjoying the game of golf really.

“I’m super grateful that my whole family is supporting me and mostly my mum has been following with me these past few years, but every once in a while, also my brothers come and caddy for me. My dad is also here this weekend and has been for the last two weeks. This has just helped me so much and I definitely wouldn’t be able to do this without them.”

Babnik is teeing it up in the inaugural edition of the MCB Ladies Classic – Mauritius this week on the Legend Course at the Constance Belle Mare Plage.

It’s her first time on the island of Mauritius and she has been enjoying spending time on the beach with her family.

The two-time LET winner would love to add another title to her collection and believes her game is in the place to do so, but that’s also not the be-all and end-all for her.

She continued: “It’s my first time here. We went to the beach yesterday a bit in the afternoon and then rested with the weather. It’s pretty exciting, especially this being such a cool spot to be at. I’m really excited to see this place as well.

“I definitely want to win. I’ve been trying to for some time now. I definitely feel like now I’m in a place where it doesn’t really matter if I do or not, but I feel like my game is in a place where I can be in contention more times. When you are in contention more it can happen. That’s definitely my goal.”

Babnik tees it up in the first round of the MCB Ladies Classic – Mauritius on May 1 at 12.05 pm (local time) alongside South Africa’s Casandra Alexander and New Zealand’s Amelia Garvey.
