Following a sensational two weeks at Lalla Aicha Q-School, Singapore’s Shannon Tan has officially turned pro and will become her nation’s first player to compete on the Ladies European Tour (LET) as a full member when she tees up at the Magical Kenya Ladies Open in February.
The 19-year-old enjoyed a magnificent December in Morocco as she topped the Pre-Qualifier – Noria standings before finishing T8 at Final Stage to earn Category 12 status for 2024.
Having showed immense composure and quality across the five days of action, Tan has now accepted membership two years into her collegiate career at Texas Tech University and will be turning pro ahead of the 2024 campaign.
In the process, the Singaporean will become one of two players from her country to take up LET membership for the first time in history with Sock Hwee Koh attaining Category 19 status for the upcoming year.
“The time is finally here,” Tan said in a post on Instagram. “I am excited to announce that I am officially turning professional and will be making my professional debut this week at the Webex Players Series Murray River followed by the Vic Open before heading to Kenya to kick-off my 2024 LET season.
“I would like to thank my Texas Tech family – coach Jojo, coach Laurie, our support team and my teammates for an incredible college golf experience. I am grateful for the unwavering support, guidance and patience that have helped me grow on and off the course.”
Tan first started playing golf at age five and represented Singapore at the 2018 Espirito Santo Trophy in Ireland back in 2018.
The rising star’s most memorable moment to date then came last year when she won the Singapore Ladies Masters to collect a hat-trick of trophies, picking up the low amateur, best Singaporean, and 1st place prize.
Having accepted a scholarship at Texas Tech University, competing for the Red Raiders women’s golf team, Tan would close out her freshman year by finishing fourth at the NCAA Division I regionals.
With a big future ahead, the 19-year-old will now be hoping to have a successful rookie season on the LET which begins with the Magical Kenya Ladies Open on February 8.
Tan said: “I am thrilled for what is to come and look forward to embarking on this new chapter!”
