To celebrate one year to go until the 2026 Solheim Cup, and as part of the LET Sustainability Initiative (LETSI), Eva-Lotta Strömlid, Head of Client Partnerships at the LET, will embark on a sustainability-driven journey from her home in Sweden to Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands – the home of next year’s greatest team events.
The LETSI works with partners equally committed to put sustainable leadership and green partnerships in focus to make a global impact. LETSI is about using the power of our tournaments such as Solheim Cup 2026, to showcase action and innovation across a range of priority issues such as environmental responsibility, community engagement, and working towards achieving tournament climate neutrality.
From 4-8 September 2025, Lotta will travel 1,000km, primarily by bike, to highlight the importance of sustainable travel and to help build excitement for the upcoming tournament. Her adventure will culminate at Bernardus Golf on Monday, 8 September, one year before the 2026 Solheim Cup begins – and the day that general tickets go on sale at 2pm CEST.
Solheim Cup 2026 Team Europe and U.S. team captains Anna Nordqvist and Angela Stanford, and vice captains Paula Creamer and Caroline Hedwall, will join the last part of the journey, from Den Bosch Station to Bernardus Golf. Travelling alongside Solheim Cup stakeholders, they will mirror the same route fans will take in September 2026 – highlighting the event’s commitment to sustainable travel.
The journey begins in Västra Karup, Sweden, where she will cycle 100km to Copenhagen, Denmark and then continue on a bus and boat to Lübeck, Germany. From there she will continue on her bike and then board a train to Groningen, the Netherlands. Her route then continues south towards Utrecht. The final day will be an 80 km ride to Bernardus Golf – the perfect finish to the year-to-go celebration.
Along the way Lotta plans to meet LET’s Ellinor Südow in Helsingborg, and former PJSC player Benedicte Brent-Petersen in Copenhagen. Nutritionist Amy O’Donnell and part of the LET Performance Institute (LETPI) has provided Lotta with a nutrition plan leading up to the challenge and during the four days to the Netherlands.

The year-to-go event will showcase Q&A sessions with Solheim Cup team captains, meet-and-greets with junior golf groups, attendance from global partners, and community engagement activities.
“I’m embarking on this journey to lead by example and to inspire a shift in mindset of sustainable practices”, said Lotta. “Through my training and preparation, I’ve been reminded of how deeply I value nature and the sense of freedom that comes from cycling. Being able to combine my personal passions with an activity that also promotes the Solheim Cup and LETSI, makes this journey even more meaningful.”
In the Netherlands, Lotta will be joined by Jelle Sprée from the Dutch Golf Federation, the promoter behind the Dutch Ladies Open.
She continued: “Jelle is a true inspiration – he’s cycled from the Netherlands to northern Sweden and even from the Netherlands to Moscow. I’m looking forward to teaming up with him to champion eco-friendly travel adventures and support the Solheim Cup in the Netherlands.”
In line with national efforts and regulatory goals in the Netherlands, sustainability and environmental awareness are key themes of Solheim Cup 2026. Sustainable transport plays a key role, and in true Dutch fashion, Lotta hopes to encourage others to be as sustainable as possible when travelling to Bernardus Golf.
Strömlid’s own journey in golf has been one of resilience. After turning professional and joining the LET in 2000, she competed for three seasons. At that time, there were only around 12 or 13 events per season and given her category, it meant she wasn’t playing regularly. This uncertainty ultimately led her to step away from competitive golf earlier than planned.
Just weeks after deciding to end her playing career, she learned of a job opening with the LET for the 2003 Solheim Cup, hosted in Sweden. She joined the organisation, tasked with event administration work and supporting tournament partnerships, including the newly established PING Junior Solheim Cup. Now over 20 years on, her adventures continue and this being bigger than ever.
