During the PGA Halmstad Ladies Open at Haverdal in Sweden, the Ladies European Tour together with Scandinavian College of Sports (SCOS) organised a get together and Q&A with LET members Lynn Carlsson, Louise Friberg, Victoria Lovelady and Charlotte Thompson sharing stories and experiences with 20 talented amateurs. The activity is part of the LET’s Inspire strategy which aims to help grow the game by creating inspiring and motivating activities for young talented golfers.
The 20 amateurs included students and alumni from the SCOS, students at the ASPERO Regional Golf High School, members of the Swedish National Team and young talented girls from the local area.
“It was so nice to meet the pros and hear their stories,” said Moa Storm-Edholm, one of the students at SCOS. “I am curious and they shared everything, so it was very inspiring. I am also very happy because I will get to caddie for Louise Friberg at the LETAS event here in Halmstad. It was nice to connect with her before the tournament and I look forward to spending the next few days with her and learning more.”
Lynn Carlsson, a second year LET member and former student at SCOS, added: “It’s a big step to go from amateur to professional golf. There are so many new things to learn and at the same time you need to perform. I am glad I am here today and hopefully some of my advice will help the young girls when planning for their future career.”
Director of Sport at SCOS and former LET winner Sofia Grönberg-Whitmore summarised: “I’m really looking forward to having LETAS here in Halmstad. It is such an important tournament for our players, both the ones that are playing and for the younger girls that get a chance to see the next level ‘live’. This also gives us the opportunity to share knowledge. I’m very grateful that the LET contacted us at SCOS and wanted to do a joint event to boost our players, both students and younger players from around Halmstad.”
Grönberg-Whitmore continued:“Through my years as a player and afterwards I have always seen the importance of sharing knowledge, getting motivated by others and having role models. A lot of good things have already been done by others and let’s learn from their journey. Maybe not copy, but pick up hints and tips that can help the next person’s journey.
“Within the golf department at the Scandinavian College of Sport, we want to help players take the next step. Using academic knowledge and also by developing their game in different areas on and off the course. Having some players that have made it on tour at different levels coming to us to share their experiences is a great opportunity for our players to get inspired and motivated.”
The activity took place at the impressive Volkswagen Golfarena located in the outskirts of Halmstad, which is also known for being the golf capital of Sweden. The practice facility includes several unique practice areas, a driving range, nine-hole course, gym and a bed and breakfast facility, which is visited by several LET members based in Sweden.
