LET breaks new ground in Hungary

(Macclesfield, Cheshire, England April 6 2004) The Robe di Kappa Ladies European Tour announced today an exciting addition to the 2004 schedule as it plans to host its first event in the former Eastern Bloc.

The ‘OTP Bank Ladies Central European Open – Hungary’ will take place from July 16-18 at Old Lake Golf Club in Tata, Hungary – one of the newest members of the ever expanding European Union.

“I would like to thank Old Lake Golf Club, Tata, the title sponsor OTP Bank and the Board of Tourism for their foresight in being pro-active in bringing a Ladies European Tour event to the former Eastern Bloc for the first time,” said Ian Randell, Chief Executive of the Robe di Kappa Ladies European Tour.

“Once again we are breaking new ground and hopefully this will be the catalyst to open up new opportunities for us in other countries in Eastern Europe.

“Golfing interest in Hungary is growing rapidly and we believe that this tournament will assist in this process as well as helping Hungary to be recognised as an excellent destination for golfing breaks.”

Dr. József Szórd, the President of Old Lake Golf Club, Tata, added: “In the political sense Hungary joins Europe on the 1st of May this year and the OTP Bank Ladies Central European Open under the auspices of the Ladies European Tour represents the date we join Europe in the world of golf.”

The Old Lake Golf Club situated in Remeteségpuszta is 30 minutes on the highway from the Hungarian capital of Budapest, approximately 90 minutes from the neighbouring capitals Vienna and Bratislava. The course is built under the Gerecse foothills near the historical town of Tata and was built on the hunting estate, formerly the property of the Eszterházy family.
