Luna leads but Brits challenging

(Buenavista del Norte, May 2 2004) Diana Luna from Italy takes a two shot lead heading into the final round of the €220,000 Tenerife Ladies Open after play for the third round ended on Sunday morning.

High winds forced the suspension of play during Saturday’s third round with over half of the field returning at 8.15am to complete their rounds.

Luna battled over the two days to post a one over par 73 to post six under par with her nearest challengers being Becky Brewerton from Wales and Georgina Simpson from England on four under.

Brewerton, the runner up at this event last season as an amateur and who missed out on around £55,000 in prize money when she also finished second in the WPGA Championship of Europe, had to complete nine holes of her third round and sprinted out of the blocks with an eagle at the par five 13th followed by a birdie at the 14th and went on to post a one under 71, putting her in contention for her maiden victory.

Second round co-leader Minea Blomqvist from Finland limped in with a five over par 77 and is tied with Sweden’s Johanna Westerberg on two under par.

The final round begins at 12.30pm (GMT) as a shotgun start and play is expected to finish around 5pm.
