(Evian-les-Bains 24 July 2003) Sweden’s Sophie Gustafson finished her second round in a hurry as she leapt into contention at the $2.1million Evian Masters overlooking Lake Geneva.

And Scotland’s Janice Moodie missed a tiny putt for par at the final hole to post a 71 and drop back to five under par, joining American Christie Kerr and Koreans Jeong Jang and Hee-Won Han.
And among the six players lurking ominously in a share of ninth place on four under par are local favourite Patricia Meunier-Lebouc, who had a joint best of the day 67, former winner Rachel Teske from Australia who had a second consecutive 70 and compatriot Karrie Webb, who also had a 70 and who goes into next week’s Weetabix Women’s British Open seeking her first victory since her sixth major win last year at Turnberry.
But after a dreary morning at Evian, the sun finally appeared through the dark rain clouds and Gustafson soaked up the sunshine and applied it to her game. Turning in two under par 34, the comely Swede got the stroke of luck needed by holing a 20 foot par putt at the 14th. It transformed her day as she had just three putted the previous two holes.
At the 15th, she rifled a three wood approach at the green and safely chipped and putted for her birdie and at the short par four 16th, she fired a sand wedge to five feet for another.
