(Killarney, Ireland, June 13 2003) Scoring was as hot as the weather conditions in County Kerry as England’s Laura Davies and Sophie Gustafson from Sweden royally entertained the galleries at Killarney Golf and Fishing Club after a feast of birdies and eagles in the opening round of the €165,000 Ladies Irish Open.

“Helen and I were saying yesterday that the chances are that the winner was going to come from our group, so early on we were trying to hang on to Sophie’s coat-tails and try and stick close to her today.
“Every time I come back to Europe, I feel that I have a great chance. The par fives are much shorter and there are a couple of giveaway holes and you don’t quite get that in America and I just feel really comfortable with it.”
