CHARLEY HULL MAKES MAJOR MOVE ON SATURDAY AT U.S. WOMEN’S OPEN

Charley Hull charged into contention on moving day at the U.S. Women’s Open presented by Ally firing a round of the week 65 (-6) to soar up the leaderboard in California.

Hull started the day T45 on three-over par but returned to her very best at The Riviera Country Club carding seven birdies including two on her final two holes to jump into T8.

She trails Solheim Cup rival Nelly Korda and South Korea’s Sei Young Kim by three shots heading into the fourth and final round at the second Major of the year.

“I felt like it was quite scoreable out there,” Hull said after posting the sensational scorecard. “[It] got quite firm, I think, as well. Just felt like I went at everything. I played really decent actually the first two days tee-to-green. Just couldn’t get a putt. So just stuck in there and went at everything today. Just thought **** it.”

Hull’s 65 (-6) on Saturday was reminiscent of the third round 66 (-6) she shot at last year’s AIG Women’s Open at Royal Porthcawl in Wales. On that occasion, the Solheim Cup star catapulted 24 spots up the leaderboard into fourth position before eventually finishing T2 on Sunday to Japan’s Miyu Yamashita.

It remains Hull’s joint best result at a Major championship after she also finished second at both the 2023 AIG Women’s Open at Walton Heath and 2023 U.S. Women’s Open at Pebble Beach.

The 30-year-old will look to go one better on Sunday at The Riviera Country Club and claim her long-awaited maiden Major.

“I kind of like chasing,” Hull said on the challenge ahead. “I just find it more fun and just I can then be free and then just play golf how I want to play golf.”

The Englishwoman will tee up in the fourth last group on Sunday at The Riviera Country Club playing alongside China’s Ruoning Yin at 12:05pm. Click here for the full list of tee times.
