WOAD EXCITED TO FINALLY MAKE PROFESSIONAL DEBUT AT ISPS HANDA WOMEN’S SCOTTISH OPEN

Lottie Woad

Lottie Woad will make her professional bow at the 2025 ISPS HANDA Women’s Scottish Open being held at Dundonald Links between 24-27 July.

The English star turned professional after securing her LPGA Tour card through the LPGA Elite Amateur Pathway (LEAP).

Woad, the former world number one amateur, stormed to a six-stroke victory at the KPMG Women’s Irish Open at the start of July.

The 21-year-old then headed to the Amundi Evian Championship needing just a top-25 finish to secure her final two points to earn her LPGA Tour card.

But Woad’s scintillating form continued as she produced rounds of 68-69-70-64 to secure a T3 finish in the fourth major of the year.

“Obviously, I’m very excited,” she said. “I have been thinking about making my professional debut for a long time. I’m excited to do it on home soil as well. It’s going to be really fun.

“[On Evian] It was really cool. Sunday was a really fun day being in contention and being close in the end and then I got my LPGA card from that, and so it was a pretty easy decision once I’d spoken to my coaches and my team.”

This week presents a different challenge with Woad returning links golf, but she has good memories having won the Smyth Salver at the 2024 AIG Women’s Open held at St Andrews.

It is the English star’s first visit to Dundonald Links and although the course is playing softer due to rainfall, she believes it could still provide some surprises.

“I haven’t played links golf that much this year being in America, but I have played it a little bit since I’ve been back,” she continued. “I felt the transition to it is not too bad since I grew up playing amateur golf on links courses and I know how to flight the ball down, which always really helps playing in the wind.

“I do like links golf. That was a really special week playing at the Home of Golf and playing well, just getting to play St Andrews is really cool – especially at an AIG Women’s Open.

“Never played here before. It’s a really good course. It’s a little bit softer than before with all the rain, so it might play a little bit different. If the wind gets up, it could still throw some curveballs out there.”

The LET winner is excited to tee it up in the first round at 8.36 am (local time) alongside world number one Nelly Korda and four-time LET winner Charley Hull of England.

She added: “It’s going to be fun couple of days. [Nelly and Charley] are two players that I look up to. Growing up, I watched a lot of the English pros, so being paired with Charley tomorrow is going to be cool.”
