It’s been 18 months since Caroline Hedwall last teed it up on the Ladies European Tour (LET), but she is back and ready to compete at the 2026 PIF London Championship.
The Swedish star has been busy in her time away from the LET being announced as a Vice Captain for the European Solheim Cup Team.
Hedwall was in attendance at last week’s AIG Women’s Open where the European Solheim Cup Team was finalised.
“I’ve been there supporting Anna [Nordqvist] really,” she said. “Growing up together, playing golf, we just have the same mission about how we see that team shaping up and what’s important on a team as well.
“Mostly I’ve just been there supporting her and then I was there when we picked the team last weekend. Everything changed when Esther holed that putt. It was just very exciting. It’s been a great experience. There’s so much going on behind the scenes and it’s just impressive how big this is.
“You’re never aware of all the work that goes around, but it’s really cool. As a player, you just show up and play golf. You just do whatever you’ve been told to do. It’s different definitely.”
Despite being away from the LET for 18 months, Hedwall is excited and ready for this week’s PIF London Championship.
Centurion Club is hosting the tournament for the sixth consecutive year and the five-time LET winner has played in three editions.
The Solheim Cup star has a best finish of T9 here in 2022 but has never played the golf course when it’s been so firm and knows it will be a test.
“It’s really cool [being back],” she continued. “It doesn’t feel like 18 months ago because you get into it fairly quick, but then obviously I’m not really sure about the status of the game, so that will be interesting tomorrow. There are a lot of new faces as well. A lot happens in 18 months, but it’s fun to see everyone.
“I’ve been doing a lot of other things than golf, so that’s why I’m not really sure about my status. I’m looking forward to it, I enjoy being here and we’ll see what my golf shows. I feel like I’m hitting it well, but golf is not just about hitting it, you have to score as well. I haven’t played a tournament for 18 months, so it will be interesting to see.
“It’s just very firm. The ball is going a mile. I feel like we have played this course in many different conditions. It’s been super wet some years and it’s been really firm, but I’ve never seen it this firm though. It will be a good test for sure, and especially if it’s windy as well.”
Hedwall tees it up in the first round on Thursday August 6 at 9.09 am (local time) alongside France’s Agathe Sauzon and Italy’s Anna Zanusso.
