Daniela Darquea had a good week at the PIF London Championship in 2025 finishing as the runner-up at Centurion Club.
The Ecuadorian star returns to the course this week hoping to go one better in the tournament which takes places from August 6-9.
Darquea produced rounds of 71-71-68 to end the week in solo second place on nine-under-par just one stroke behind eventual winner Laura Fünfstück of Germany.
“I have a lot of really good memories,” said Darquea. “I was playing the practice round this morning, and I was trying to remember the last few holes. I thought it was a fun week, and hopefully I can do something very similar. Hopefully this time, I win – that’d be nice.
“It’s a place that I really like. I really enjoy the golf course. I think it’s a really good setup, very demanding in different ways. But at the same time, it’s very rewarding if you take the risks. That’s what I remember a lot about last year.”
Darquea who plays on both the Ladies European Tour (LET) and LPGA Tour has put in some good performances recently.
The 31-year-old’s best LET finish of the season came at the Tipsport Czech Ladies Open with fifth place.
Additionally, the Olympian secured a top-20 result at the ISPS HANDA Women’s Scottish Open which saw her qualify for the AIG Women’s Open.
“My game is in good shape,” she continued. “I have been enjoying this year a lot. I had a really good round at the end of Prague, so that was very fun. Scottish was very tough, but I think I did really well.
“Obviously being able to perform in those conditions, that makes me feel good, and at the same time, being able to shoot low was important. I’m feeling good. Overall, my game is going towards the right things. I’ve been working a lot on my putting and trying to change different things, so that’s feeling good and hopefully I can keep it going.”
This week is the sixth playing of the tournament in Hertfordshire and will see a field of 120 players competing for a prize fund of $2 million USD.
The UK has been experiencing many heatwaves in 2026 and as such Centurion Club is playing differently than previous years.
“It’s very different actually, especially the front nine. It’s a very different golf course. The back, we did play that last round with almost no wind or opposite wind last year, and I think it’s playing very similar to the last round,” she explained.
“I see the wind is changing again back to the west, so it’s probably going to be changing and being a little bit different. The fairways are firmer and the greens are fairly receptive. They’ve been watering them; it looks like they’re very receptive. It’s in great condition and we can have a really good tournament here.”
Darquea tees it up in round one of the PIF London Championship at 8.36 am (local time) alongside Slovenia’s Pia Babnik and Sweden’s Kajsa Arwefjäll.
