- Charley Hull fires final round 66 (-6) to claim three-shot victory in Saudi Arabia
- Solheim Cup stars jumps to third in Order of Merit as Chiara Tamburlini wins season standings
Charley Hull produced a masterclass performance at Aramco Team Series presented by PIF – Riyadh as she fired a final round 66 (-6) to win by three shots on 18-under par in Saudi Arabia.
Trailing Pia Babnik by two shots before the start of play, the Solheim Cup star got off to a hot start at Riyadh Golf Club birdying five of her first seven holes to go out in 31 (-5) and lead by four.
With her opponents unable to read the low-scoring script on Saturday – Babnik, Luna Sobron Galmes and Fatima Fernandez Cano all carding over-par rounds – Hull was able to cruise to victory on the back-nine carding three more birdies and dropping two shots to complete a three-shot victory.
“I feel like my game’s been pretty good all season,” the 28-year-old said. “I’ve been knocking on the door quite a lot over the past couple years and this week it all came together. I feel good. I’m going to get a hot chocolate [to celebrate], that’s about as exciting as it gets for me!
“I was actually in the gym this morning, I didn’t start my warm-up until 45 minutes before because I needed to get a 5k run in! I felt really strong out there.”
The triumph is Hull’s first since October 2022 which came on the LPGA Tour, fourth on the Ladies European Tour (LET), and second at the Aramco Team Series (her last coming in 2021 in New York). Since her last win in Texas, Hull recorded eight runner-up finishes across both Tours.
“It feels really good to win again,” she continued. “Especially here in Saudi, it’s my sponsored event with Golf Saudi. It’s just great to be here and get that win. I felt really sharp and played really solid out there. I held my game together pretty well. 18-under across three days is a pretty good score!
“Iβm going home for a week now before I head back to America for the last two events in the LPGA, which is the ANNIKA event, and then the CME Group Tour Championship. I like the Tour Championship golf course. I won there in 2016, so I’m looking forward to them too. Then home for Christmas β I can’t wait.”
After a sensational display Hull jumps to third in the 2024 Order of Merit collecting 500 more points. Yesterday’s winning captain, Chiara Tamburlini, clinched the season-long standings on Saturday after finishing T7 to increase her tally to 2,718.44 points. She becomes the first Swiss player in history to win the Order of Merit and Rookie of the Year honours.
In second place after a magnificent final round finished Nicole Broch Estrup. The Dane put last year’s demons to bed having signed for a wrong scorecard in 2023 carding a 67 (-5) on Saturday to finish runner-up on 15-under par.
Babnik ended the day in in solo third on 13-under par thanks to another excellent week. Dutch star Anne van Dam produced a huge performance firing a 69 (-3) to finish in a tie for fourth and jump 24 places in the Order of Merit to 63rd. The result helps secure her card for 2025.
Germany’s Helen Briem continued her phenomenal 2024 finishing fifth alongside van Dam and Spain’s Fernandez Cano on 10-under par. Tamburlini and Wales’ Lydia Hall finished in a tie for seventh on nine-under par.
Next up for the LET is the season finale at the Andalucia Costa Del Sol Open de Espana presented by OYSHO. Play gets underway on November 28 in Malaga.
