As the Ladies European Tour (LET) heads to Riyadh this week for the fifth and final Aramco Team Series presented by PIF event of 2023, several green initiatives will be taking place at the tournament to help spread awareness and drive sustainability in Saudi Arabia.
The Aramco Team Series in collaboration with ‘Green Riyadh’, a Vision 2030 project, pledges to plant a tree for each ticket purchased and for every birdie made by a player across the three days of the tournament.
The pledge aligns with the values and campaigns from the LET’s Celebrating the Green presented by Dow initiative, an ongoing partnership launched in December 2020 which aims to recognise and celebrate the sustainability activity – environmental, human, social and economic – stemming from layers, partners, tournaments and venues.
PLANT THE IMPACT caveats the environmental pledge Golf Saudi are facilitating at the tournament and one that will be enrolled into future events. The total amount of trees planted can be found on the big screen within the Fan Zone.
Spectators can also register for a plaque in the Aramco Energy Zone which certifies your contribution to Saudi Arabia’s pledge of driving sustainability and a positive environmental impact.
On top of that, the Riyadh event is inviting individuals to participate in a Pink Ribbon Walk in honour of Break Cancer Awareness Month which concludes this week.
Coined WALK THE IMPACT, spectators, officials, caddies, and players alike are invited on a 2km weave through Riyadh Golf Club to raise awareness for the campaign.
Like with the PLANT THE IMPACT initiative, a ticker in the Aramco Energy Zone will allow spectators to see the walk’s live progression as the count rises throughout the week.
The WALK THE IMPACT presented by Breast Cancer Awareness initiative will take place around Riyadh Golf Club at 4pm following the day’s play on Saturday and offers spectators the chance to complete the 2km walk (or run).
For every completed participant, the Aramco Team Series will donate one prevention check-up courtesy of Dr Sulaiman Al-Habib Medical Group for one person to use.
Additionally, a bespoke ‘Pink Hole’ is in operation this week on the 14th hole. Playing 164 yards, the par-3 presents a tough challenge for the LET’s best with bunkers surrounding the green and a fiercely tight pin expected to be positioned. It will certainly captivate an impactful feel to the course and set up nicely in honour of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
At the final stop of the Aramco Team Series presented by PIF in Riyadh, the event will offer audiences to SEE THE IMPACT of the Aramco Team Series presented by PIF beyond the golf course. #SEETHEIMPACT is the Aramco Team Series presented by PIF’s Riyadh’s tagline and exists to highlight its commitment to deliver tangible Social, Environmental, and Economic impacts within the city of Riyadh and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
All three initiatives continue the work Golf Saudi has continued to do since 2020 to create a comprehensive national golf sustainability strategy that looks to embrace innovative culture and ambitious outlook across key environmental, economic and social aspects of the sport.
The LET remains committed to recognising and promoting great sustainable work being done by the LET community as part of the Tour’s initiative LET Celebrating the Green presented by Dow in partnership with GEO Foundation for Sustainable Golf.
