WINNING AT HOME WOULD BE A DREAM COME TRUE FOR DAVIDSON SPILKOVÁ

Winning her home tournament, the Tipsport Czech Ladies Open, in Beroun, would be a dream come true for Klara Davidson Spilková.

The two-time LET winner finished a close second behind Jana Melichová last year and hopes that this will be her time, as she believes the year so far to be the best of her career.

“My game is definitely ready. It depends if my mental and physical health stays in shape this week,” said the 28-year-old from Prague, in her 13th season on the LET. “I think I have everything I need to win, but we’ll see what’s going to happen. This is what I play and train for. I take it as a challenge.”

The fourth ranked woman in this year’s Race to Costa del Sol has posted five top ten finishes this year, including second place behind Carlota Ciganda in the Aramco Team Series – Florida.

Speaking about her season so far and her chance to lead the Race to Costa del Sol with a win or a second-place finish in Beroun, she added: “I try to take it week by week, stay present, but I’ve been playing great. I think I can win the whole thing; I really believe in that. I try to have smaller goals and don’t put too much pressure on myself. If I play good golf and believe in it, then hopefully it’s going to happen.

“I think I’ve been very consistent in every part of my game and the fact that my husband, Sean, could caddie for me part of last year and this year, it’s been nice to spend time together.”

There are now three Czech LET champions on the LET, with Davidson Spilková, the 2017 Lalla Meryem Cup and 2022 KPMG Women’s Irish Open champion, joined by last year’s Tipsport Czech Ladies Open winner Melichová and Krystina Napoleaova, who won the Amundi German Masters on Sunday.

Davidson Spilková says that this is motivating her to raise her game further. “There’s always pressure to be the best Czech player in the field and I always want to beat my countrywomen, but in a good way! We have some very strong players and a good energy between us, so it’s been really enjoyable,” the two-time Olympian continued.

The winning score for all three wins by Czech players in the last two years has been 14-under-par. Speaking about the target for this week’s 54-hole competition she added: “I think it’s going to be pretty low. Even though the weather tomorrow looks a little funky and the wind is going to be strong, I still think we can go low and score well here.”

The Tipsport Ladies Czech Open tees off at Royal Beroun Golf Club at 7:45 on Friday. Davidson Spilková will start her campaign at 13:41 in the company of Johanna Gustavsson and Cara Gainer.
