- Team Strom lead Aramco Team Series – Sotogrande by one stroke
- Alison Lee fires seven-under-par 65 to top the individual leaderboard
Team Strom produced another excellent day at the Aramco Team Series – Sotogrande as they carded 13-under-par to lead by one shot after the second round.
Linnea Strom, Jenny Haglund, Agathe Sauzon and Alessandro Anzelmo opened their tournament with 14-under-par, which left them tied for third overnight.
They carded another great round today to be 27-under-par and leading the team competition at La Reserva Club Sotogrande.
Team captain Linnea Strom said: “I think as a team we compensate each other very well, everyone makes birdies and whenever someone made a mistake we had another team mate doing something good. We have a very good amateur as well; he made his first ever eagle today so that was fun for us to see that and he gained some confidence from that. We helped each other out very well out there and just enjoyed it.”
One stroke behind the leaders is Team Buhai consisting of Ashleigh Buhai, Stacy Lee Bregman, Hayley Davis and Ignacio Morillo.
After recording a round of 13-under-par on the first day, they replicated that in the second round to put themselves in contention for the top prize.
Buhai said: “It has been fantastic, and it is so much fun to be playing a team format. I think we have all done really well at pulling our weight and coming in when we needed to, even our amateur. It has been great fun the last two days. The wind got up a lot more today, so it was a little trickier, but we hung in there and did well.”
“It is great playing alongside these two especially a fellow South African and Hayley has been awesome. We played well in the wind today, we thought it we could get to 10 or 11-under we would have a good chance and we got to 13-under today – I’m really fancying our chances going into tomorrow with the team,” Bregman added.
Team Lampert, who were the joint leaders overnight, put in another solid performance carding nine-under-par on the day to reach a total of 24-under-par and sit in third place.
Captain Karolin Lampert moved up the leaderboard in the individual standings where she sits on seven-under-par and in second place after two rounds.
“Today was a little bit of a struggle, my playing partners weren’t there quite at the beginning, but we managed to get the pars in and post a decent score. We talked about it on the back nine and said if we can get somewhere close to 10-under for the day, that would be pretty good,” said Lampert.
“I managed to make a couple of birdies which was really nice too. It’s just good fun, we have a good group, our amateur is a very nice person too, it’s perfect.”
American Alison Lee fired the round of the day as she carded a seven-under-par 65 to be alone at the summit of the individual leaderboard on 14-under-par.
The 2015 Solheim Cup player started her round with a bogey but then rolled in eight birdies to be seven shots ahead of Lampert.
“A lot windier today and it was playing a little bit differently than yesterday, I had a bogey-free round yesterday and was hoping to do the same today, but you can’t expect much when it is playing a lot more difficult. I was a little frustrated after the bogey on my first hole, but I did the best I could to stay focused for the rest of the round,” Lee explained.
“I hit quite a few iron shots pretty close, so I didn’t have to work too hard to make a tonne of birdies. It almost felt a little bit easy out there because I was playing well and that is what you want on a day like today when everyone else is struggling. I feel I really took advantage of a day like this and feel really good.”
Three players are tied for third place in the individual competition with Buhai and Tiia Koivisto shooting rounds of 69 (-3).
While 2020 LET Rookie of the Year Stephanie Kyriacou produced a one-under-par 71 to be sat alongside them on six-under-par with one round to play.
“It played a little bit tougher today with the wind up and the greens a little bit quicker, but if you look at my scorecard it is a little bit like a rollercoaster, but I will take one-under today,” said Kyriacou.
