Carlota Ciganda fired a round of 66 (-6) to put her on track to defend her Individual title in Tampa.
The Spaniard started off strong with back-to-back birdies on the first and second holes at Feather Sound Country Club.
But the Solheim Cup star didn’t stop there rolling in further birdies on the fourth, sixth and ninth holes to make the turn in five-under.
Ciganda then dropped a couple of shots on 12 and 13 but soon made up for it with birdies on holes 14, 16 and 17.
“I’m very happy to start with six-under, I started well with a couple of birdies on the first two holes,” she said.
“The front nine I think you can score pretty low; the fairways are a little wider and I feel good with the par-fives. I had a couple of bogeys on the back but finished with three birdies in the last five holes so I’m very happy.”
Ciganda, who has had a lot of success in this format is the defending champion in the Individual competition, while last October she also led her team to victory in the Riyadh.
The Spanish star is playing alongside English rookie Annabell Fuller and LET legend Trish Johnson this week.
Even though she is doing well in the Individual competition, Ciganda is enjoying the team aspect and thriving in the atmosphere.
She added: “We are playing our own game, but I am trying to cheer on the team so a lot of vamos when they make putts and birdies. I love the team atmosphere; I want to make birdies for the team more than myself and that’s why I play well because it’s playing for something bigger than yourself.”
