Alexandra Försterling is feeling back to her best and ready to win again on the Ladies European Tour (LET) following a superb start to the season in Australia.
The German enjoyed a fruitful stretch Down Under recording results of T5, T38, T17 and T2 to show glimpses of the formidable form which made her a four-time LET winner inside eight months back in 2024.
Having had a few weeks off to fine tune her game some more, Försterling has every right to be brimming with confidence heading into this week’s Joburg Ladies Open.
“Overall I think the Australian stretch was really good for me,” the 26-year-old said, who finished runner-up to Hannah Green in the final event, the Australian WPGA Championship. “I think I gained a lot of confidence from it – especially the first and last week which were really good. I’m overall really happy and proud of myself that the hard work in the winter paid off. I’m excited for the next three weeks coming up.
“After I finished in Australia I went to the States for a week to visit my boyfriend and stay with him for a week. Then I had two weeks at home and did some gardening as I’ve got a little garden project which I’m working on at the moment. I practiced as much as I could and tried to stay in the flow.”
Försterling’s strong start to 2026 follows a difficult 2025 which saw her battle a lingering back injury for most of the season.
“Here and there, it still hurts and I can still feel it,” she explained. “But I can manage it. I’m seeing the physio regularly and we also have the German team physio here this week which is really nice. Overall, I’m feeling much, much better. It’s nice when you play pain free. It makes such a difference and you can swing so differently.”
As for this week, Försterling tees up in the Joburg Ladies Open at Randpark Golf Club as one of the favourites in the field. The tournament is one of two events in South Africa co-sanctioned with the Sunshine Ladies Tour (SLT).
The German continued: “I would love to do a safari and I can’t wait for Cape Town [next week], it’s one of my favourite cities in the whole world. I’m also very excited Mauritius [the week after that].
“We’re struggling a bit with the rain [this week in Joburg]. The course is pretty wet but overall it’s holding up pretty well. I really like it and I think it suits my game because you have to place your drives really well. Hopefully I can roll in a few putts and give it a good run again.”
Försterling gets underway at the Joburg Ladies Open at 7:15am on Thursday playing alongside England’s Annabell Fuller and India’s Hitaashee Bakshi.
