SOBRON PUTS DIFFICULT YEAR TO BED WITH Q-SCHOOL SUCCESS

Spain’s Luna Sobron Galmes ended a difficult, injury plagued year on a high at Final Stage Q-School as she dug deep and rekindled her best form to regain full Ladies European Tour (LET) playing rights for 2024.

Hindered by back trauma for much of 2023 – a year where she competed on both the LET and LPGA – the Mallorcan returned to full fitness in Morocco opening with a wonderful 65 (-8) before eventually finishing fourth to earn Category 12 status.

“I’m happy with getting my LET status again,” Sobron Galmes said. “This year was a difficult year because I had an injury, so I’m happy.

“After finishing LPGA Q-Series last year, I started having lower back problems which I dragged on throughout this year. I’ve had a great team behind me that has been supporting, pushing, caring, and bringing the best out of me so that, despite the pain, I could continue to play.

“I had a protrusion in my back. Q-School was the first week that I was playing without medication so I’m very happy.”

Injury free for the first time this year, the three-time LET Access (LETAS) winner was helped by having fiancé Alvaro on the bag, the long-term caddie of Solheim Cup heroine Carlota Ciganda.

She said: “Alvaro is really good at reading the greens, he gave me a lot of confidence and we had a lot of fun. We’re going to enjoy the holidays at home and work hard for next year!”

While Sobron Galmes was also boosted by having several compatriots in the mix in Marrakech, with Spain’s Fatima Fernandez Cano, Teresa Toscano, Teresa Diez Moliner, and Paz Marfa Sanz all earning Category 12 status.

“It’s great to see so many Spanish players in the top 20,” the Mallorcan said. “Next year we are going to play together, and it will be like the Spanish teams when we were amateurs!”

Now home and enjoying the off-season following a rollercoaster year, Sobron Galmes will tee off her 2024 campaign at the Magical Kenya Ladies Open, the inaugural LET event of the season which tees off on February 8.

“What can I say about this year,” Sobron Galmes posted on Instagram“Learning, overcoming, perseverance, courage, hope, and faith. A lot of faith in what I do. I’m glad to have my category back on then LET. Looking forward to what’s to come and definitely back to where it all started.”
