METRAUX HOLDS SIX SHOT LEAD WITH 18 HOLES REMAINING IN FRANCE

Morgane Metraux of Switzerland holds a six-stroke lead ahead of France’s Agathe Sauzon after the second round of play was completed at the Jabra Ladies Open.

Play was suspended for the first time due to inclement weather at 2.55pm on Friday and, after a one-hour delay, for a second time at 6.08pm as thunderstorms moved across the Evian Resort.

Returning on Saturday morning to complete her round, Metraux carded three more pars to post a round of the week 64 (-7) and lead by six shots at Evian Resort Golf Club.

The Swiss star explained: “I started on 15, pretty steadily, and then made a good putt for birdie on 17. I made an eagle on 18 after hitting the green in two and hitting it to about 10 feet with a 3-wood. I was a bit unfortunate with my lie on one, so I bogeyed that and then I was back on the train where I was hitting good shots, sometimes close and I made a few putts. It was really steady and comfortable golf.

“I think no mistakes was the secret. I know this course really well now. I’ve played it quite a few times and I get to practice here sometimes when I’m home. I know exactly where you can and can’t go. I managed to stay in the good places [in round two] and give myself plenty of looks. I made some good putts but I would say not making any mistakes was the key.”

Metraux is chasing a second Ladies European Tour (LET) victory this week after she claimed maiden glory at the Ladies Italian Open in 2022.

She said: “I’m feeling very calm and very cool. I love this place and I always feel really really good here. I know my game’s in a good place so I just tried to stay present. Let’s see what the next round will hold.

In second place sits Sauzon who followed up Thursday’s 66 (-5) with an even-par round of 71. The Frenchwoman is two shots clear of five LET stars, a group which includes Swedish duo Moa Folke and Johanna Gustavsson, Switzerland’s Chiara Tamburlini, Ireland’s Lauren Walsh, and Czechia’s Jana Melichova.

At the end of round two, 62 players made the cut which was set at five-over par.

The third and final round of the Jabra Ladies Open gets underway at 10:45 local time on Saturday morning.
