Media Training for Rookies

All of the LET Rookies at the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco participated in a media and communication training workshop delivered by experienced golf commentator and sports broadcaster Richard Kaufman.

The interactive training session included advice on what to do and what not to do when facing the media, fans, sponsors and when speaking publicly, including how to deliver and present a powerful message using individual character, personal experiences and communication skills. After listening to Richard’s words of wisdom, a number of the Rookies took part in dummy interviews that were then critiqued.

Valdis Thora Jonsdottir from Iceland felt that the training was extremely valuable. She commented: “The guidance was very useful in helping to ensure that the correct message is delivered and presented in a powerful way.  Through the training, I learned that we need to be professional at all times, but we should also take the opportunity to show our personalities. The examples he showed us were really helpful and he gave us some very practical hints and tips, such as how to prepare and how long to speak in an interview.”

The media training formed part of the Ladies European Tour’s ‘LET’s Get Ready’ element of the organisation’s development strategy, which is designed to support new players joining the tour for the first time. This is the first educational workshop of the season that will help give Rookies a good start on the LET and it complements the four-day Rookie Orientation Days which took place in Spain in January.
