Thalia Martin fired the round of week late on day two at the 2025 Amundi German Masters to climb up the leaderboard in Hamburg.
After an opening round of 75 (+2) around the ‘Green Monster’, the English play fired an exceptional bogey-free 66 (-7) in round two.
Martin, who began her round on the 10th tee, made her first birdie on the 13th hole before rolling another on 15 and 18.
The 28-year-old continued her form on her back nine with birdies at the first, sixth, eighth and nine holes to move into T6 on five-under-par.
“I didn’t realise what I had shot, I had to ask mum afterwards because I was trying to be in the moment,” said Martin.
“I haven’t been for the past four weeks since the win in Morocco, I kept on thinking about the future or the past, but I said to mum I’m staying in the moment and in the shot again and for some reason it just worked. I think it was more mindset.
“It’s the first time I didn’t know what I scored, I just kept saying let’s get another birdie. The other low rounds I knew and then I did course management and said let’s just make a par, but the last few holes today I just tried to keep going.”
It was a career-best round on the Ladies European Tour (LET) for Martin, who changed her putting this week.
“I have been struggling with my putting for the past four weeks including four-footers, so I have changed to not line up my putts, so I don’t think too much about it. I think that’s helped with some of the birdies,” said the winner of the 2025 Madaef Golfs Ladies Open on the LET Access Series (LETAS)
“But also, my approach shots were a lot closer this week. I had a lot more wedges, luckily the weather was actually on our side for the afternoon, and I just tried to take advantage.
“I have learned about dealing with the wind, your start lines and just course planning really. Have a plan A and plan B and go through with what you can and don’t try and force anything so that’s the plan for the weekend.”
