LET HEADS TO JOBURG FOR SOUTH AFRICAN SWING

Following a short break in the schedule after a fortnight in Australia, the Ladies European Tour (LET) is in Johannesburg this week for the start of the circuit’s South African swing.

The ninth staging of the Joburg Ladies Open kicks off the first of two events in the Rainbow Nation with Modderfontein Golf Club on hosting duties for the third year in a row.

A total of 120 players will take to the field between 18-21 April vying for their share of €300,000.

As with the previous two editions of the tournament, the event is co-sanctioned with the Sunshine Ladies Tour with 28 exemptions and seven invites afforded by the South African series.

England’s Lily May Humphreys will be defending her crown after overcoming a six-shot deficit in the final round last time out to hoist the trophy.

Past champions Casandra Alexander (2021) and Lee-Anne Pace (2016) are also in the field with the former teeing up in her hometown once again.

Elsewhere, LET winners are aplenty with 24 past victors playing in Johannesburg, including India’s Diksha Dagar, Spain’s Ana Pelaez Trivino, and Singapore’s Shannon Tan.

Home favourite Cara Gorlei is also in the field having won her maiden Sunshine Ladies Tour title last week at the Jabra Ladies Classic. The full list of entries can be found here.

Following a cut of the top-60 players and ties on Friday, the final two tournament days will be available to watch live around the world. Full broadcast details will be listed on the LET website in the coming days.

Measuring a length of 6651 meters, Modderfontein Golf Club is a par-72 offering a parkland setting with firm greens and tree-lined fairways. These elements combined with challenging strategic bunkering provides for an excellent test of golf, even for the most accomplished golfer.

The Joburg Ladies Open will be followed by next week’s Investec South African Women’s Open in Cape Town at Erinvale Country and Golf Estate.
