LET CELEBRATES WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2021

Protecting the environment is more important than ever and today, Saturday June 5, marks World Environment Day 2021 with this year’s theme calling for urgent action to revive damaged ecosystems.

Last year the LET launched its sustainability initiative – Celebrating the Green, presented by Dow – which aims to champion environment, climate, and community action across women’s golf.

Soon after, the LET announced OCEANTEE as a Proud Supplier for the 2021 season with players and Pro-Am competitors having access to their awards winning durable and sustainable bamboo tees.

At the end of the April, the LET hosted a webinar which allowed LET and LETAS members to listen and learn more about the sustainability initiative.

The LET’s Green Partner, the GEO Foundation for Sustainable Golf, provided information to members about how they could get involved while Sustainable Golf Champions Suzann Pettersen and Camille Chevalier also shared their knowledge with the group.

Recognising and promoting the great environmental work being achieved through the LET community is a key aspect of the initiative.

Emma Allerton, LET Commercial Director, said: “Protecting and enhancing the environment is fundamental to our health, quality of life and prosperity and through our community we can collaborate and make our voices heard to make a real difference.”

Many courses that the Tour visits are implementing sustainability practices and the venue for the 2021 Ladies Italian open – Golf Club Margara – is a GEO Certified Course which covers an area of 125 hectares but only has 50 hectares of playing area and 30 hectares are irrigated.

This week at the Jabra Ladies Open, Evian Resort plays host to the tournament, and it is another venue which is committed to sustainable development.

Sustainable Golf Champion Camille Chevalier said: “It isn’t only the view at Evian Resort Golf Club, the parks and gardens are absolutely stunning and they’re full of flowers and colours. The great thing about Evian is the resort’s serious commitment to sustainability and the implementation of eco-sustainable practices. This week, I have even had delicious organic tomatoes from the 3000m2 vegetable garden!”
