“I FEEL A LOT MORE CONFIDENT”: PELAEZ TRIVINO EXCITED TO GET GOING IN JOBURG

Ana Pelaez Trivino is full of excitement heading into this week’s Joburg Ladies Open as she returns to a country which produced happy memories for her in 2023.

The Spanish star finished runner-up at Modderfontein Golf Club last time out before registering another second place finish a week later at the Investec South African Women’s Open.

“I’m excited,” Pelaez Trivino said. “I have really good memories from last year, especially with my caddie and finishing birdie-birdie. I don’t think I have many expectations heading into this week. I just hope I can enjoy it as much as last year.

“There are a couple of holes which are playing a little different on the front nine. But besides that it’s playing pretty similar. I think it’s playing the same as how I remember last year.”

The one-time LET winner carded rounds of 68-69 over the last two days in 2023 to eventually finish two shots adrift of England’s Lily May Humphreys.

Her excellent finish kickstarted a fine of results, however, with Pelaez Trivino going on to register six more top-10s in 2023.

She said: “Last year in this event I started working with my mental coach. I think it’s nice to think that it’s now been one year. I feel a lot more, confident, happy and chill with my life. This place bring back that memory.”

As for her goals, Pelaez Trivino is remaining grounded despite coming in as one of the tournament favourites.

“I’m changing some stuff in my swing right now. But at the same time I still want to keep competing. We working little by little every week, so now it’s all about trying to get a feel for the tournament. Trying to keep it simple.”

While her eyes are still set on finding success across the pond on the LPGA after securing her card at Q-Series in November.

“The plan for the year is no plan! I think it’s really tough to keep up with both tours, so I’m giving priority to LPGA. But I love LET and I love playing golf. No matter where. So this week I had a week off because I didn’t make it to the Major [The Chevron Championship], and I saw two tournaments so I thought lets go over there and play!”

Pelaez Trivino gets underway at the Joburg Ladies Open at 07:33 local time playing alongside the English duo of Humphreys and Alice Hewson.
