Linn Grant knows what it takes to win at Evian Resort Golf Club as she did just that a few months ago securing victory at the Jabra Ladies Open.
After a tense final day where she battled it out with Dutch star Anne Van Dam and France’s Celine Herbin, it was the Swede who came out on top.
It was the fifth Ladies European Tour (LET) title for the 2022 Race to Costa del Sol champion as she won by two strokes.
The Swedish star has fond memories of the week as she heads into the 2023 Amundi Evian Championship.
“It feels good,” said Grant, who is fourth in the 2023 Race to Costa del Sol. “It wasn’t too long ago I was here, so it feels familiar and nice. It was my last week before heading to the United States, but it was just a nice week.
“I had a lot of things ahead of me and it’s always nice to start a couple of weeks on the road with a good week. I had my coach on the bag and my mum was with me as well.”
Grant has also had success Stateside since playing on the LPGA Tour and that culminated in her maiden title a couple of weeks ago.
The 24-year-old was in control throughout the Dana Open and recorded a three-shot victory despite a last day charge from Allisen Corpuz.
She explained: “I’d been playing just in Europe for the past two years or so, I felt that I had the game to win on the LPGA, but it’s always that you have to get over and actually do it.
“It was just nice confidence-wise to get it done early and to just have a really like solid week where I felt like I could perform out on the LPGA even on a regular week. It’s a boost for sure.”
Evian is a place where Grant had done well in 2022 finishing T13 at the Jabra Ladies Open and T8 at the Amundi Evian Championship.
The five-time LET winner will be kicking off her campaign at 8.15 am (local time) alongside defending champion Brooke Henderson and 2021 Race to Costa del Sol champion Atthaya Thitikul.
But despite her great performances around this course, Grant also knows the challenges that she will encounter this week.
The world number 21 added: “I tried not to have too much confidence coming into this golf course. You have to play it smart. You cannot be too greedy out there, really play to the big areas and like I said, don’t be too greedy with some pins.
“My plan is to have confidence in my putting and just hopefully drop a few birdies. Also, when you hit a shot that isn’t maybe the way you wanted, it’s fine and you just have to accept it for what it is and move on.
“It’s been soft all week. You have some advantage carrying the ball further. I’ve played this course really firm as well and it gets so difficult. I think it’s going to be great. It’s also going to be possible to really go for the pins and get really close out there.”
The Amundi Evian Championship begins on Thursday at 7.15 am (local time) with the final tee time in the afternoon at 2.15 pm (local time).
