After securing her card at Q-School, Alexandra Försterling marked this week down as one she is looking forward to.
The LET rookie, who is from Berlin, is excited to tee it up this week in her homeland at the Amundi German Masters.
It will also be the first time she is playing as a professional in her home country, having turned professional last year after graduating from Arizona State University.
Another benefit of playing at Golf & Country Club Seddiner See is the fact that Försterling is able to stay in her own bed this week – although it is taking some getting used to.
“It’s nice to be at home,” she said. “Right now, it feels weird waking up in your own bed and thinking it’s an LET tournament this week.
“I have to get in a routine and do the same things I would do if I’m not at home. It’s amazing and the weather is nice too. It’s weird to be able to eat breakfast at home, it doesn’t feel quite real.
“It’s exciting to be teeing it up at home for the first time as a professional, but also maybe a bit weird for a couple of people seeing me teeing off as a pro because they always just watched me as an amateur. It will be fun.
“It means a lot to me to play here. Last year I couldn’t play, I was a little sad but I was always excited for this year and I was looking forward to it the most. Now, it’s here and it’s nice. Hopefully, I can enjoy the whole week, take it all in and play some good golf.”
Försterling booked her spot on the LET in 2023 after she finished tied at the top of the leaderboard as a co-medallist at LET Q-School in December of last year.
Adjusting to life on Tour is something that can take time but the German player has had a solid start to the season.
She sits 49th in the Race to Costa del Sol with two top-20 and two top-30 results to her name so far and the 23-year-old is enjoying travelling the world.
“This year has been good,” she explained. “We travelled really far, so that was something to get used to.
“I enjoyed every single week and seeing new places and Singapore was great. Last week at the Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed, it was so cool to experience everything. I have been enjoying it a lot.
“I was struggling on a couple of things in my game but last week I think I played well. I’m hoping that everything comes together this week.”
Försterling will begin her first round at 2.08 pm alongside fellow German Olivia Cowan and England’s Gabriella Cowley.
Having played at this venue when she was a junior and after practicing and playing in the Pro-Am, she believes conquering the bunkers will be key.
And after so many weeks on the road, the former ASU player is also looking forward to seeing some friends and people from home this week.
She added: “I know the course from junior golf but couldn’t quite remember. I have played a couple of times before this tournament. There are a lot of bunkers out there. It’ll be the key to stay out of the bunkers. The greens are amazing, I really enjoy the greens. If you get out of the bunker and putt well, I think that’s helpful.
“I have people from my home golf club coming because they told me they were coming to watch. A couple of my friends will come out and I think it will be an amazing week.”
