FÖRSTERLING EXCITED FOR SPECIAL WEEK ON HOME SOIL

Alexandra Försterling

It has been a couple of months since Alexandra Försterling teed it up on the Ladies European Tour (LET).

At the start of March, the German star won her third LET title in the space of six months securing victory in the Individual event at the Aramco Team Series Presented by PIF – Tampa.

The 24-year-old had a great start to the year with a top-10 finish at the Magical Kenya Ladies Open, T12 at the Aramco Saudi Ladies International Presented by PIF before winning in Tampa.

Försterling sits seventh in the LET Order of Merit with 675.42 points from the four events she has played.

“The start of the year was better than expected I would say, I got off to a really good start,” she said.

“When you’re playing the first event, you never know how you have come out of the winter. I worked hard in the winter, so I came out pretty good and my game is in a good position, and I feel comfortable and confident.

“It was nice winning in America on the LET and the people that get to know your name is definitely growing which is nice. I think it’s great. That’s what we’re working for and it’s been really nice since Tampa.”

After beating Solheim Cup stars Carlota Ciganda and Charley Hull at Feather Sound Country Club, Försterling moved into the Solheim Cup spots and put her name firmly in the conversation.

The three-time LET winner now sits fifth in the points list and is also 71st in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings.

But Försterling is not letting the pressure of the Solheim Cup get to her and is just trying to stick with her processes.

She explained: “The Solheim Cup is definitely in the back of my head, I’m not trying to focus too much on it because it’s easy to start putting pressure on yourself if you want something too bad.

“Sometimes I’m a person who wants things too badly and then they don’t work how you want them to work. I try to do my own thing and be consistent.

“It’s definitely also new to me, but it feels great being in that group of people that could potentially play the Solheim Cup. That’s always a great feeling.”

Försterling, who is from Berlin, is getting to play in the Amundi German Masters for the second time in her career.

After a stint playing in the United States, the ASU graduate is looking forward to being back on the LET and having home comforts this week.

She added: “I only live 30 minutes from here. I can sleep at home, it’s really nice. I enjoy being at home and I love it at home. I love Berlin. This week is definitely special to me.

“A healthy mix of having attention and being under the radar is probably good. I still try to do my own thing and just focus on what I’m doing and not get too distracted and really just enjoy it and have fun.

“I have played the course a lot, I played last year here. I have come to practice here a couple of times. I think it definitely suits me, I’m really excited and looking forward to it.”

Försterling begins her title tilt at 8.48 am (local time) on Thursday morning alongside England’s Bronte Law and Thailand’s Trichat Cheenglab.
