We’re getting into the groove of the Ladies European Tour (LET) season now and next up is a trip to the Aramco Saudi Ladies International presented by Public Investment Fund.
It is the fourth time that the tournament will take place at Royal Greens Golf & Country Club where 120 players from 31 countries will tee it up.
But before the tournament gets underway, here are a few points to look out for…
Witness History
It is a historic week on the LET with the prize money for ASLI having undergone a five-fold increase from US$1m to US$5m, which sees parity with the men’s PIF Saudi International powered by SoftBank Investment Advisers.
The total prize purse is the third highest on the LET and the winner at the end of the week is set to receive a cheque for $750,000 USD.
World-class field
A stellar field has assembled for the third event of the LET season with 120 players competing who are comprised from LET members, 50 spots from the top 300 players in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings and 10 invites.
There are Major champions aplenty among the cast with 11 players having secured 16 Majors between them including Anna Nordqvist, Ashleigh Buhai and In-gee Chun, while 12 of the top 20 in the world rankings will also battle it out.
Champions return
The winners of the three previous editions of the Aramco Saudi Ladies International are all back in town with Emily Kristine Pedersen (2020), Lydia Ko (2021) and Georgia Hall (2022) set to tee it up.
All three know what it takes to get it done around Royal Greens and lift the trophy at the end of the week. Will one of them win the title again?
Race to Costa del Sol winners in attendance
Reigning Race to Costa del Sol champion Linn Grant will play her second LET event of the year this week coming off the back of a second-place finish in Morocco last week and she is joined by 2023 Race to Costa del Sol leader Aditi Ashok, who has had an exceptional start to the year.
While Thailand’s Atthaya Thitikul, who won the 2021 Race to Costa del Sol, is back for ASLI where she finished as runner-up behind Ko and the inaugural winner of the tournament Pedersen was also crowned 2020 Race to Costa del Sol champion a few weeks after her victory here.
Teenage talents back to scenes of success
The Aramco Saudi Ladies International is not the only LET tournament to have been played at Royal Greens. It has also hosted the past three editions of the Aramco Team Series – Jeddah.
In 2021 it was Slovenian superstar Pia Babnik who came out on top to take the individual crown and win her second LET title. While last November Germany’s Chiara Noja won her maiden LET title on this golf course and both will be looking to replicate that success.
