FIELD BREAKDOWN: HERO WOMEN’S INDIAN OPEN

The Ladies European Tour (LET) is back in Delhi this week as we return to DLF Golf & Country Club for the 16th edition of the Hero Women’s Indian Open.

A field of 114 players from 31 nations will be competing in a 72-hole stroke play competition with a cut of the top 60 professionals and ties after the second round on Friday.

The field in India consists of 71 LET players from several different categories, 33 members of the Women’s Golf Association of India (WGAI), and 10 invites.

Unfortunately 2023 champion Aline Krauter is not in Delhi to defend her crown but four past champions will be teeing up at the Gary Player designed course. This quartet includes Christine Wolf (2019), Becky Morgan (2018), Camille Chevalier (2017) and Caroline Hedwall (2011).

Order of Merit number one Chiara Tamburlini is town fresh from her recent victories in Taiwan and France. The Swiss rookie can win the Order of Merit this week can she increase her lead on Manon De Roey by 10 more points. Having climbed to World No 66 in recent months Tamburlini is the highest ranked player in the field.

Elsewhere, no fewer than 26 Indian players are in the field hoping to emulate Aditi Ashok (2016) (absent this week) by winning on home soil in the nation’s capital. This includes two-time LET winner Diksha Dagar – playing in her hometown – as well as Pranavi Urs, Vani Kapoor, Tvesa Malik and Amandeep Drall.

On the invite list, Swedish veteran Linda Wessberg tees up having recently made her 300th appearance on the LET. She is joined by LPGA star and Olympian Maria Fassi. The Mexican was invited to play on the LET earlier this year at the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco where she finished T3 having led for the first two days.

Six winners from the 2024 LET season will be vying to add another title with to their names. Joining Tamburlini and De Roey – winner of the Investec SA Women’s Open – are English duo Amy Taylor and Alice Hewson, Singapore’s Shannon Tan and France’s Perrine Delacour.

Another winner to keep an eye on is Kasja Arwefjall from Sweden. The rising star secured two victories on the LET Access Series (LETAS) this year en route to winning our feeder tour’s Order of Merit. She comes in as an WGAI member having secured full LET playing rights for 2025.

Five Indian amateurs will play this week at DLF Golf & Country Club. Finally there are no fewer than 32 LET winners teeing up with a combined 65 wins on the circuit.

The 2024 Hero Women’s Indian Open gets under way on Thursday 24th October. The full entry list can be found here.
