Becky Brewerton from Wales and Maria Blomqvist from Sweden were tied at five-under-par, while Sophie Sandolo (Italy), Minea Blomqvist (Finland) and Sara Jelander (Sweden) were tied in eighth position at four under par.
Ekelundh needs a top three finish this week to win the “Volvo Cross Country Challenge” Order-of-Merit (VXCC), while Fairclough, Tinning and Blomqvist all need to win the tournament to claim the top spot.
Tinning, who is attracting a large supporting gallery this week, said: “I think I’m playing pretty well. I’m hitting the ball well and I’m pretty happy with it.”
She admitted that she was thinking about next week’s activities: “I’m thinking a lot about the Solheim because I’m very excited but I’m trying to keep focused.
“I think even the Danes would be surprised if I managed to pull this one off so I’ve got to do my best and see what happens,” she said.
Maria Blomqvist, who shot rounds of 71 and 68 for five under par total, had her second bogey-free round as a professional.
“I’m very surprised as it’s only my second round ever without any bogeys, the other one was in the second round of pre qualifying at Q School last year,” she said.
