DAVIES AND FUENFSTUECK HEADING INTO THIS WEEK ON A HIGH

It was a weekend to remember for Rosie Davies and Laura Fuenfstueck, who tied the knot surrounded by friends and family in the UK.

The LET duo touched down in Belgium yesterday, fresh off the celebrations, and are set to tee it up this week as part of the 132-player field.

I think it was literally the best weekend of my life”, said Fuenfstueck. “It was so nice to have all your friends and family in one place from all over the world. That doesn’t happen often, so it was really special.”

Davies added: “Because of our jobs, we’ve missed so much of family life, birthdays, or other weddings, so we thought let’s make our wedding a whole weekend. Turned out to be like a three-day festival and we loved every minute of it.”

Our coach was with us on Saturday – right there on the dancefloor – and at one point we joked, ‘Should we just head to Belgium on Wednesday instead?’” Fuenfstueck laughed. “But then we thought, no, let’s be sensible and get there Monday night so we can actually prepare properly today and tomorrow.”

This week presents a fresh challenge, as all players face a new course. “Sometimes that’s actually quite nice – knowing no one else has seen it either,” said Davies. “I spoke to a couple of the girls from Tenerife who mentioned the course was quite physically demanding. I thought, well maybe you’re as tired as we are, so at least we’re on a level playing field!

The German jumped in with a smile and said: “Obviously, we might be physically tired, but we’re so full of love and laughter and it was such a fun weekend hopefully that can fuel us through this week. We’re excited to play again.”

It’s been a whirlwind year of wedding planning for both of them. “It’s nice to be hitting golf balls without thinking about the colour of the napkins,” Fuenfstueck joked. “The first half of the year felt like it was all about organising this three-day extravaganza. Now that it’s behind us, we can fully shift our focus back to golf – no more excuses!

She added, “We’d been planning it for about a year, but the last four to six months were really intense. You totally underestimate how much work goes into it – but it was absolutely worth it. I just wish we could do it all over again.

In terms of Davies’ golf game, the 35-year-old has been working on her swing lately. “I think it’s taken a while to bed in and I’m now definitely seeing glimpses of some really good stuff. You can’t underestimate having all the other stuff on your mind and now I’m just excited for the second half of the season where I can just go out and play and only worry about golf.”

Alongside golf, the Englishwoman also runs a couple of businesses including a gym in London and ‘Friday&’.

It’s been a solid season so far for the German, with a top-10 finish in the Investec SA Women’s Open and a further two top-10 finishes in the team events.

Commenting on her season so far, Fuenfstueck said: “I think I can always be better. I’ve felt like I’ve been up there a little bit more than last year. I wasn’t necessarily disappointed with the season last year, but I felt like I was doing a lot of things really well but the results weren’t necessarily showing. I think I’ve had a couple of weeks already this year where I think I’ve not really had my A game but I was still was up there somehow. I’m looking forward to more weeks of being in contention. I think that’s where the fun is.”
