India’s Diksha Dagar got off to a hot start during round one of the MCB Ladies Classic – Mauritius making an ace on her second hole.
The two-time LET winner began the day on the 10th hole and just one hole later on the par-3 11th, she hit her 6-iron into the headwind and saw her ball bounce once and drop into the hole.
Dagar then made further birdies on the 15th and 18th holes, she dropped a shot on the fifth but bounced back with a birdie at the ninth to seal an opening round of 68 (-4).
“I’m glad I started really well in the first half of my round and then the wind picked up the pace, it was tougher conditions and I’m glad I could play steady golf and maintain the momentum,” she said.
“I’m really happy I had a hole-in-one on the 11th hole, I had a 6-iron into the headwind. It was all of a sudden, we were so happy and realising it went in. I have had four hole-in-ones and three in tournament play.”
Dagar is loving her week in beautiful Mauritius and is particularly enjoying the Legend Course at Constance Belle Mare Plage as it reminds her of courses back in India.
She continued: “I’m very much enjoying playing in Mauritius, there’s a very scenic view of the beach and the lagoon. Yesterday, I was walking on the coast and enjoying the view. Maybe because of that positive energy and being stress-free, today was a stress-free round.
“I like this kind of golf course because it’s very much similar to Indian golf courses. It’s more of an accurate golf course, so playing sensible and course management is important.
“I plan to play steady golf and trust the process. I want to hang in there and will try to drop some more putts.”
