Ellinor Südow had much to celebrate on her 27th birthday as she produced a round of 70 (-3) to sit in a tie at the top of the leaderboard at the 2025 Amundi German Masters.
The Swedish star was one of the co-leaders after round one when she fired an opening 68 (-5) on the North Course at Green Eagle Golf Courses.
She continued her form on Friday in Germany with a round of 70 which included six birdies and three bogeys to lead on eight-under-par alongside Helen Briem.
“It’s a really good birthday,” said Südow. “I had a wonderful day out there. It was tougher today, but I was able to roll in some birdies, so it was fun.
“It was nice as I hit the first tee shot so far right, I had a bad lie and somehow managed to put it to six or seven feet and roll in that birdie very firmly and after that, it was pretty straightforward.
“I didn’t hit my drives very well today at all, I was very nervous overall and felt my legs shaking in the backswing throughout the 18 holes. It was a lot of nerves, a good test for me. It’s been a long time since I’ve felt that way.”
Südow is in search of her maiden LET title and having tackled the ‘Green Monster’ during the first two days of competition, she is looking forward to the rest of the weekend.
“It gives me a lot of confidence; I’m going to go and hit some drives after this,” she continued. “It’s just very assuring with my decisions and it’s very clear what I’m supposed to do on every shot, especially on those approach shots with the wind and where you want to start the ball.
“That’s how you have to play this course just being very confirming of everything and I think I did a good job of that today. The drives were a little bit all over the place, but I enjoyed that.”
The 27-year-old has her mum on the bag and her dad watching on the sidelines this week in Hamburg.
Despite, celebrating her birthday and being in a share of the lead for the tournament alongside Germany’s Briem, Südow didn’t have any wild plans for the evening.
She added: “I’m quite tired, I’m going to go and maybe order a pizza or something, but first I’m going to hit some drives and my parents are probably going to have some nice drinks and I’ll watch them.”
