ALEXANDER BUILDING CONFIDENCE AS SEASON PROGRESSES

Casandra Alexander

Casandra Alexander recorded her best result of the year so far at last week’s Aramco Team Series Presented by PIF – Korea.

The South African improved every round making scores of 73-71-67 to finish in a tie for third place alongside Colombia’s Mariajo Uribe.

Alexander was one of two players to fire a 67 (-5) on the final day of the Individual event at New Korea Country Club.

The 24-year-old was pleased with the way her week unfolded and it was her first visit to South Korea.

“Definitely, it’s always nice to finish up there in an event and an Aramco Team Series event is even better,” she said.

“I played nicely today, I played nicely all week. There were just a couple of stupid mistakes that cost me a little bit and I’m glad I didn’t have as many of those today. I actually felt like I hit my irons worse than I have the last couple of weeks, I hit really good wedges.

“I hit them tight and I made a couple more between two and six footers today than I did the previous two days and obviously I had a lot more of them because I had wedges in. I was pretty solid off the tee all week and I think that helps. This golf course is not very wide and once you’re off the fairway that can cost you a lot.”

Alexander had ankle surgery at the end of 2023 and has been getting back to full fitness throughout 2024.

She won her fifth Sunshine Ladies Tour – the ABSA Ladies Invitational – at the start of April.

The week before teeing it up in Korea, Alexander finished in a tie for second place in the Waterfall City Tournament of Champions powered by Attacq which was a mixed event.

Speaking about the confidence she got from that finish, Alexander explained: “The boys always make you up your game because you have to keep up with them and they definitely did that last week.

“I played nicely keeping up with them. I had a lot of confidence coming here. My biggest concern was the long travels, but when I got here I felt alright. My body felt good, I knew it was going to be a decent week. I usually play well in Asia.”

Alexander now heads to Germany to tee it up in the Amundi German Masters which takes place from May 16-19.
