Whittaker and Ma inspire juniors at Yalong Bay

Leigh Whittaker from Germany and Sai Ma from China gave their time to share their skills and talents with juniors from the Sanya Golf Academy at Yalong Bay Golf Club ahead of the final round of the Sanya Ladies Open. The Tour players shared their tips with the youngsters, who were expertly guided through hitting shots on the driving range.

Ladies European Tour member Whittaker, 28, from GC St. Leon-Rot, said: “Golf is an amazing sport and I’ve learned so many things with it, not only about sport, but also life lessons, so it’s nice to see that Yalong Bay is helping kids to not only be active but to give them the possibility to have a well-rounded education. It’s really rewarding being able to contribute to their development and they are very open to learning.”

China LPGA Tour player Ma, 21, who was born in Beijing but was raised in New Zealand and grew up competing with Lydia Ko for the North Harbour Team, said: “I’m very happy to be helping out here and it’s my first year on tour and I’m so pleased that they picked me, because I’m new here! It’s awesome to help kids to learn golf and in China, it’s still an expensive sport so it’s nice that Yalong Bay can offer these opportunities to help children learn golf and who knows, they might be world number one in 10 or 20 years’ time, which would be really cool to see!”

The Ladies European Tour is committed to developing golf in the countries where its professional tournaments are held and inspiring new generations to be active and try the game.
