Feng catches Lee in second round

China’s world number 13 Shanshan Feng carded five birdies in her first 10 holes in the second round of the Ricoh Women’s British Open on Friday morning to catch overnight leader Mirim Lee of South Korea, who birdied the fourth to reach 11-under-par.

Four shots behind overnight, Feng birdied the second, third, fifth and seventh to make the turn in 32, before adding a fifth birdie on the 10th in light drizzle. However, she bogeyed the 12th and 14th to drop two behind at nine-under.

Feng was the first Major championship winner from mainland China in 2012 and reached a world ranking of fourth by the end of 2013. A second Major title would come at the perfect time ahead of her participation in next month’s Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

However, former champions Mo Martin and Karrie Webb are also on the charge and three-under for the day after eight and 13 holes respectively. Martin won at Royal Birkdale in 2014 but was unable to defend her title last year at Turnberry due to injury while Webb is a three-time winner of the event, who first won at Woburn in 1995.
