Ladies European Tour Rookie Maribel López Porras galvanised support for women’s golf in her home country by staging a successful fundraising Pro-Am at her home course La Sabana in Colombia at the weekend.

Maribel and her mother organised the day with 124 participants, including 20 top Colombian professionals including Mariajo Uribe, Paula Hurtado, Anna Kindgren and 104 amateurs playing in the event.

The initiative was to raise funds for Maribel’s 2016 season and she said: “It was basically a crazy idea I had with my mom, which ended up being a reality! It was amazing to see how people really want to help my career, and how they want to see me succeed this year in the Ladies European Tour. I cannot wait to get my season on the LET started!”

As well as all of the top female players, there were also many male professionals from the PGA Latin America helping with the clinic and Pro-Am. Together, the top professionals inspired and motivated local juniors and adults to get involved in golf by enjoying a big day out with fun entertainment in a great festival atmosphere.

After qualifying for the LET through Lalla Aicha Tour School in Morocco in December, Maribel is looking forward to getting her first season underway. “I’ve been practising really hard, and preparing myself for this amazing golfing year to begin! In 2016 I want to have my first professional win, that’s my biggest goal,” she commented.
