Sweden’s Emma Westin has played in ten events this season on the LET Access Series, recording three wins and a further four top ten finishes. She has received an invitation for this week’s Tenerife Open de Espana Femenino, due to her win at the recent LETAS Mineks & Regnum Ladies Classic at National Golf Club in Turkey.
Westin currently leads the LETAS Order of Merit with four events remaining this season.
We interviewed the 23 year-old from Halmstad during the practice day of the Tenerife Open de Espana Femenino:
Q: Tell us more about yourself…
I am from Boras, near Gothenburg, but now I live in Halmstad and practice there. I graduated from high school in Boras and then went to Halmstad and studied for three years at the Scandinavian School of Golf, where I graduated last May. So since then, I am just playing golf now. This is my third year as professional and have been playing on the Nordea Tour and this year is my first full year playing in all the LET Access Series events.
Q: What has been your experience on the LET Access Series?
This year I have been playing great and had three victories, two in a row. I have just won in Turkey and in Finland before this one, the HLR Golf Academy Open. My first victory was in Sweden (the Solvesborg Ladies Open hosted by Fanny Sunesson). In Finland I finished -11 and won by 11 shots.
Q: What do you think is the best part of your game?
I think it is my confidence and I am very stable on the course. This is my first LET event and let’s see how my game will be here.
Q: This is will be a great experience for you playing in your first LET event, what do you think the differences are compared to your experience on LETAS?
I think the level here is higher, but I still think I can make it and perform well. My game is good enough. I am not afraid of competing here. I take it as a good experience because I may play here next year. It is just going to be lots of fun.
Q: Is this your first time in Tenerife or Spain?
No, I have been to Spain before, but not to Tenerife. It’s fantastic out there! In Halmstad I can see the sea, but not these beautiful views.
Q: You short-term plans
I will continue playing the rest of the LET Access Series events. I will be missing the next one in France, but then, I am going to play the three remaining tournaments to make sure I get to number one.
